Who should be the fan favorite for team Canada this year at the
2019 IIHF World Junior Championship.
As was Max Domi in 2014-2015, Mitch Marner in 2015-2016, Thomas Chabot in 2016-2017.

I don't remember Marner being a fan favorite. I remember him being incredibly divisive. No Canadian kid really leaves the tournament a fan favorite unless they win.

I'm sure it will be Lafreniere because he doesn't have a team affiliation yet and is highly skilled.

I also don't think that Marner was some sort of fan favourite. A lot of people ripped him, especially for his long shifts. Tootoo was quite a fan favourite back in 2003 with his huge hitting game and interesting back story. It's difficult to say who people will support as it depends on who plays well.

I don't know if anyone will ever replicate Tootoo or Eberle.

Yep, for completely different reasons but those guys are probably the most loved world junior players for Canada. I think Tavares was pretty loved by the fans at the world juniors as well, he played a couple years, scored big goals and won. I remember being a huge Pietrangelo fan because he did everything back there.

But unanimous fan favourites the only 2 I would really say are Tootoo and Eberle. I dont remember people liking Marner or Domi anymore than your typical skilled player on the roster. Obviously fans of the teams they were drafted to liked them but nothing over the top.

This year no one on the roster strikes me as a fan favourite type. I would guess maybe Comtois because hes physical and will produce, but he might also take some penalties. The only dman who is physical really is McIsaac but I dont expect him to play a huge role this year, maybe next year. Outside of the physical aspect that Canadians love, its hard to predict who will be a clutch scorer

Leason will be a fan favorite if he scores at a clip close to what he's doing in the DUB. Undrafted and a late bloomer. He has to put up the pts.

Hard to pick 1. I think the team is a collection of guys that will work well together. Be interesting to see who steps up.

Obviously, fans like players who score big goals at big moments and play with a lot of intensity. That's why I also think that Comtois can be that guy.

However, to do this, he must stay out of the penalty box and this is sometimes difficult for this type of player...especially with international rules.

I have a hard time seeing a nation bond around a goalie.

Alexis Lafeniere is a name that people will learn very quickly and one that is easy to love, seeing as he's younger and very talented, returning next year and already popular.

If you don't know his name now, you definitely will in a month

Whoever steps to the plate and plays the Canadian way in big moments.

Gold Canada Gold!!

Yeah, the Tootoo train hype was real.
We usually get the Buttons and Mcguires of the world shamelessly trying to promote their guy but it rarely works out. To be honest i think the ridiculous level they take it too turns many people off of those players.
I could see any of the lesser known kids taking the title should they thrive during the round robin portion this year.

My guess for this year would be Comtois.
