What American can coach Team USA better than Tortorella?

There are approximately 318M correct answers to that question.

Team USA needs a new GM and a head coach. Lombardi is brining his garbage LA Kings mentality into team USA: a bunch of third liners, unskilled, slow players - yet they expect to be competitive and win with that crap roster? He's got to go as much as Tortorella.

Unfortunately it sounds like the USA management along with Torts will be back.. Team USA has so much potential and talent coming up potentially for 2018 olympics (if the NHL chooses to participate) , only to be snubbed by Abdelkader and Backes. sad

i would pick straight away the guy coaching NA... if you can gelled as a team a bunch of young superstars in so little time, you must be good

After watching this past season i'm convinced Mike Sullivan is going to be one of the top coaches in the league moving forward. His system in Pittsburgh was fast, aggressive, and based on puck movement and possession. No team was able to handle or counter it. Would be perfect for team USA.

Ever since they switched away from Ron Wilson, USA's "system" and "structure" is nowhere the same. He won the World cup for USA in 96 (of course consisted of probably the best American players to ever play)

and in 2010, where they lost in over time, and could have even took a power house team Canada to the brink of elimination also. Their style of play was bar none, and they were the best "collaborated" team, I"ve personally saw with exception of the 96 team Sweden who were also text took book hockey. Of course they also had Ryan Miller who looked unstoppable, like, my gosh, it was like he could Dominik Hasek his way for team usa that year.

Should be Ron Wilson, not even sure why they hired Torterella in the 1st place, unreal. what a stupid move.

I'd say Sullivan earned a spot. I like Bylsma, and I'm not saying that as a Sabres fan, I liked him since he was with Pittsburgh.

Good point about sullivan. Everyone wants to anoint him, but there was another coach that won a Cup with a crosby team in his first partial season, and look what everyone thinks about him now.

It takes a while to get a fix on how good a coach actually is, because the league changes. Catching it by surprise one season doesn't necessarily mean you are a great coach.

What you said is 100% true. On the flip side, Bylsma can get a young up & coming Buffalo team back to the playoffs and become a darling of USA Hockey.

Stan Bowman is a born Canadian. But a long time US resident. Scotty Bowman still makes his residence in Amherst, NY. Which is hilarious as it's the only NHL club region (Buffalo) where he failed in his tenure to bring a Stanley cup to the club.

What's real interesting is his neighborhood. He, John Muckler, Darryl Sittler and one other big Cup winner all lived on the same street at one point. I think there were close to 15 Cups represented there.

Back on topic, Stan went to high school in Buffalo (Cnsius) and I think is an ND grad, he is an American at heart from what I hear.

But isn't that all the more reason to go scorched earth and start from scratch? Don't let the current buffoons ruin the next generation of talent of USA hockey.

Personally as mad as I am at this roster, looking at the guys coming up and even a few names that aren't being mentioned with the NA team guys, I can't wait until the next WC (I'm just preparing now that we are no longer go to the Olympics).

Oh I agree 100%. Don't know if the USA management will though sadly

I wouldn't let Torts near another roster again, even as an assistant coach.

Laviolette or Sullivan, with the other being an assistant with Mullen, Housley, and Hynes.

Better question: Who will replace Lombardi and all the management staff who had Torts as a coach?

Sadly Torts fit this roster to some degree very well given his style and all the grinders. Isn't it more important that we get rid of mgt? Even with Lombardi as the GM, this roster has Burke's fingerprints written all over it. Not to mention those 2 and Holmgren have been here with this same type of roster (before it was Callahan, Brown, etc). Don't let these guys ruin the next team.

Even if Kessel, Johnson, etc. went I don't see U.S. beating Canada anyway, especially in a best of three. Canada is just that much better than every team. Of course U.S. maybe puts up a better fight but the results would be the same.

That was said in 2010 and the US beat them in round robin play.
