So we've had a bit of a rotating door of veteran defensemen (I count Hajek as a vet now) who sub in when there are injuries. Gallant is unlikely to go with more than one rookie on the blue line especially as the playoffs near.

I've been thinking a little bit about the possibility of NYR not making any trades at this year's deadline and where that leaves us in terms of who we trust the most to be the 'next man up' if there's an injury to one of the veterans or a player needs a game benching.

For the purposes of simplicity I'm going to assume Nemeth is in the lineup with either Schneider, Lundy, or Jones whomever that happens to be.

The best option is to just play 13/5 and play 5 defenseman instead of feeling obligated to give a horrible player ice time.

The reason why I think Bitetto is the answer is because you can use him for like 10 minutes, he understands that role, and makes less catastrophic errors than Tinordi/Hajek.

Also it's candyland thinking to say Jones-Schneider should be a pair. No self respecting NHL coach is dressing two rookie defensemen together in the postseason.

Why would Lundqvist come out of retirement just to switch to defense?

Undercover Boss: New York Rangers edition.

Synopsis: Retired legendary goaltender Henrik Lundqvist is considering taking the position of the first-ever dual-hatted assistant coach in charge of both goaltending and defense. But before doing so, he wants to experience what it's like to play defense at the NHL level. So today, Henrik will go undercover at Rangers practice as professional tryout defenseman Dieter von Schlankenhoff. Henrik believes that going undercover as a defenseman will provide him insights to being a great assistant coach.

The ideal 7th defenseman is Patrick Nemeth.

The 5th and 6th are some combination of Lundkvist, Jones, and Schneider.

Yeah, that's right, I don't play by the rules.

If Nemeth is in the lineup, then I think it's Hajek. So, that's my vote.

I think ideally you have Schneider and Jones in there and Nemeth as the 7th.

Having any of Jones, Schnider, or Lundkvist as the 7th would be terrible.

I feel like he already has the perfect disguise: go undercover as Joel Lundqvist who doesn't have the wheels to play up front anymore.

Lindgren - Fox
Miller - Trouba
Jones - Schneider
Nemeth

This. That's a very good and young blueline. You have guys with size and guys who can move the puck in that group. Not counting Nemeth who is just a short term plug, Trouba is the elder statesman at the ripe old age of 27. There is also top prospects Lundkvist and Robertson, something has to give.

The idea for this thread is valid, but the voting options are not.

i.e. Bitetto has a total of 0 games this year but is in the running while Lundkvist and Jones are not?

Lol why is Bitetto an option? His fantasy hockey tryout was last year.

Anyway, the best candidate for 7th D is Nemeth whenever the Rangers upgrade on him with a rental
