We did forwards and defenceman, but who has the best of the bunch from both?

St. Louis with Pietrangelo, Schwartz, Tarasenko, Allen, Sonne, McCrae and Cole?

Florida now with Markstrom, Gudbranson, Bjugstad, Howden, Grabner, Pretovic, Robak, Ellerby and McFarland?

LA with Schenn, Loktionov, Bernier, Teubert, Hickey and Voynov?

Phoenix with Maclean, Tikhonov, OEL, Summers and Gormley?

Thoughts?

Florida is up there for sure, Avalanche don't look too shabby with the new additions of Hishon at forward, Pickard and Aittokallio at goal and their already great D pool.

Florida for me has to be top 2 with that incredible depth. Markstrom alone nearly makes them a top 5!

I like Nashville as well with Wilson, Ellis, Blum, Franson, Budish, Roussel and Pickard. Fantastic overall depth at all 3 positions...

Columbus
1. Phoenix- Deep at every position. Really jealous.
2. Nashville- Just like the big club, really incredible depth everywhere, they don't have to worry about a thing.
3. Florida- Not the best forward group, but the goalies are at least top 2 with L.A., and the defense group is top 5.
4. Columbus- Maybe not top 5 in offense, or defense, and for sure not goalies, but overall right here.
5. Los Angeles- Strong everywhere.

1. Phoenix
2. Florida
3. Los Angeles
4. St. Louis
5. Nashville
6. Colorado
7. NY Islanders
8. Washington
9. Edmonton
10./11. Detroit/Ottawa (OTT's defense should put them in the top 10)

Carolina I think is about 12-15.

Nashville (very good depth everywhere)
LA (very good depth everywhere)
Islanders (high end winger talent, good d-men, interesting goalies)
Washington (Carlson and Alzner potent duo)

It's too defense-heavy, but still top 5.

I think it's the New York Islanders.

NYI Florida LA are all fantastic. The top 15 are all very good, top 10 have great depth in more places, though.

Taylor Hall
Magnus Paajarvi
Jordan Eberle
Jeff Petry
Linus Omark
Anton Lander
Olivier Roy (potential team Canada starter at WJ's)
Tyler Pitlick
Martin Marincin
Curtis Hamilton
Ryan Martindale
Theo Peckham
Taylor Chorney
Chris Vande Velde

That's a hell of a prospect pool. All of those players could become NHL'ers.

Florida, NYI and Nashville in that order. Some other teams have decent prospect pools as far as NHL talent but often too bunched up in "similar" type of player (see Edmonton). While that could be argued for Preds, people forget that they have some great offensive prospects too.

Anyway, Panthers No. 1. Yeah! Something we can win!

Not enough defensive depth to go top five IMO. Ridiculous amount of skill in the forward category however.

Montreal/Ottawa
Florida, LA, NYI

Montreal, given that they've finished mostly around the 8th spot have a pretty solid prospect pool with Subban, Eller, Leblanc, Tinordi, Kristo and Avtsin, etc..

...but never with one team. Problem with Edmonton's prospect pool is there are too many of the same type of player.....and additional redundancy with their younguns like Gagner. Edmonton needs to divest some of their uni-dimensional talent pool for D and G talent sooner than later or they will not be a very rounded team....you cannot win in NHL without such roundness.

You're right, which is why I don't see guys like Omark as a mainstay in Edmonton.

The diversity of the forwards is great, especially with character role players/grinders like Pitlick, Lander, Hartikainen, Vande Velde, Fraser, Hamilton and Brule...which can complement skilled guys like Gagner, MPS, Eberle, and Hall.

The goaltending is fine with Olivier Roy heading the pool.

The defense, however, needs to figured out fast. Other than Petry, no one else seems to be capable to fill into a Top-4 role in the immediate future, and none of Whitney/Smid/Gilbert are more than #2-4 defenseman.

It would literally be a miracle for the Oilers if Adam Larsson fell into their lap at the draft next year, regardless of all the suckage required.

Larrson would be huge for Edmonton for sure...but not sure fanbase would like the suckage required.

What I see Tamby doing is packaging a few of his forward prospects, including perhaps Gagner, for some proven or soon-to-be proven D talents. I see Edmonton and Nashville as very logical trading partners in this respect. A Cody F for one of Edmonton's young guns, for example, or in some sort of package would make a lot of sense.

No, I think Gagner is way too valuable for the Oilers. The team has invested far too much in him to send him packing.

If the Oilers fill that No.1 center hole, he'll be an excellent #2, if the Oilers don't- he's their de facto Number 1.

If anything, Cogliano and Omark are the only skilled smurfs the Oilers would potentially trade sometime soon, and the return on those two won't be too promising.
