Lots of candidates. Nobody has stood out head and shoulders above the rest, like Phaneuf did the last two years.

J. Johnson would be my pick. Teammate E. Johnson deserves an HM. So do the three Canadian 18-year-olds: Bourdon, Staal and Parent. They've been key reasons for Canada's defensive dominance.

One of the Johnson's.

Following close behind them would be Staal and Parent IMO. Parent has been my favourite non-homer player in this tournament.

I have been impressed with all the Canadians, not so much Barker, because he is supposed to be so much better. (I just don't see it).

Cam Barker is supposed to be like Jay Bouwmeester... always very good, but never great.

A bit off topic, but how has Pens prospect Letang looked?

Solid all-around. Actually he's better defensively than I tought. He didn't use his booming shot nearly enough though...

edit: As for the main topic, I'd say either J. Johnson or A. Emelin.

Im not a fan of Barker either, The best d-man IMO has been Eric Johnson, but i havnt watched the Russians play except for a bit of the semifinals. Staal would be my second pick.

Hard to to give Letang props considering the past 2 games.

IMO, Letang is only on this team because he plays so well with Bourdon. If they weren't (now former) teammates in Val-D'Or, Pokoluk would have made it way ahead of Letang and Stephenson would have been the 7th. Letang would have been a miserable 8th. Same with Russell, if he didn't play with Barker in Jr, I think he would be behind Letang.

I can see why Luc Bourdon almost made the Canucks..he's been excellent. I'm not saying he's the best, because I haven't seen enough of the tournament to comment, but Luc has looked fantastic IMO.

I haven't seen much of the tourny but I would love to see what people think about Staal....like what he's good at, what he needs to improve on, etc. What they expect Staal to turn out to be down the road. I've seen his stats from Sudbury this season, read articles, opinons, some clips but never had the chance to really seen him play but from everything, I'm very high on him and was impressed in the one pre-season game with the Rangers.

Luc Bourdon has been the best IMO, followed by the Johnsons. I haven't seen too much of Emelin, so I cannot comment on him.

What a terrible arugument. Russell and Letang made the team because they are very good players, who cares who they play with in junior. Even if thats the case, what does that have to do with who has been a top D-man in the tourney? Letang has played great.

Letang has played great.

Eh? Save for the last game, I think he's been absolutely brutal and easily our worst d-man. He has so many giveaways and always makes the risky play instead of the safe one. I will give him props for being awesome against Finland, but he's been atrocious with the puck the entire tournament. Him and Russell do deserve to be on the team IMO but I remember Sutter saying even before selection camp started that he looked forward to having two defensive pairings that were already familiar with each other be on the team. I'm sure it gave them a bit of an advantage, though I've been really impressed with Russell's play so far.

Parent has really impressed me. I'd still have the Johnson boys ahead of him though. Didn't see much of this Emelin guy.

As a Habs fan, I will say hands down for Emelin ;)

As a hockey fan, (since I've seen Emelin play only once), I would say
#1 Eric Johnson
#2 Luc Bourdon
#3 Jack Johnson (expected more but he's still an awesome prospect)
#4 Emelin (nice composure against US, good overall stats, showed good balance between his defensive and offensive play.
#5 Parent (love him more game after game, didn't show much offensively but defensively he's a stud.

But my new #1 pick overall for this coming draft......MR. ERIC JOHNSON!!!
