Anybody use whips?

Saw a R4 whippy Nash the other day was going to grab it as a back up. Ended up grabbing an Afino Reg R4. (had no whippy Afi's, also have never used a Nash blade)

It just feels very fragile. Does it just feel like that or is it a time bomb just waiting to explode.

P.S Never used a whip (maybe once in practice).

P.P.S Also saw this Nash R1 reg, Chrome edition. a Hundred bucks! for a R1! unreal

I'm 5'6, 140, so I need a whippy stick. Right now I'm using a NB Apollo intermediate 67 flex, and later this year I'm going to pick up a NB One95 intermediate 67 flex. After the cut I figure it's probably around a 75.

I've used whips since I was 15. You can go bombs away with the whip flex, they load up so easy. You gotta remember, they won't just blow apart. Brett Hull weighed over 200 pounds, yet used a 65 flex. You just can't smoke the ice when you come down on the puck, which is unfortunately how most people shoot.

i love whippy sticks, it's hard for me to find good sticks because i'm 6 feet and weight 150. tall enough for a senior stick, but too light to take advantage of the whip.

85 flex eastons are a little bit stiff for me, even tho i can shoot fine with it.

i find that the bauer 77 flex is perfect for me, too bad they don't have a lidstrom clone :(

If i can find a R4 Afino i will pick one up. Always thought they would be fun as hell to load flying down the wing and just launch. Also, always thought they were paper sticks.

Thanks.

The lightest flex I've used recently was an 85. I personally didn't like it but it's all really personal preference. I'm 5'9 and I'm currently using a 110 flex.

There's no way I would pay $50 for a R1. That is a bottom of the line stick.

If anyone is interested in intermediate sticks, Hockeygiant has the NB Vapor XVI intermediate on sale for $35.99 +shipping. That's a sweet price on a decent stick. Use code vapor0331.

What about the r2? That’s on sale for 60$ at total hockey and I have a 30$ gift card. And Im 6’2†so I cant really use an intermediate

Wow, a senior stick that comes in a 65 flex? I've never seen that before. I still think you're getting shafted (haha) on quality per dollar with that stick (I own two R2s), but you probably won't find that flex anywhere else.

How do you like your R2's? Im playing with an easton sc2 and a cheap woodie right now so would it be a decent upgrade for only 30 bucks?

It's variable flex. 3 different flexes in TPS' whip flex now. I actually just picked up 2 of the R8's in the 65/75/90 combo and damn is it sick.

How does it have 3 different flexes?

Its the Tri-balance flex. go to the TPS website, they can explain better then i can (you will prob understand what they are saying).

I only thought the R10's had the Tri-balance. R8's have the Dual flex shaft as far as i know.

Anyway, if you want the R2, spend the extra 20 or 30 bucks and get the R4. R4 are great sticks. I alway have one as my backup. If you dont want to spend the extra dough, pick up a couple Aircraft Core woodies (RW4). I perfer these personally to the R2, R1's. Plus they are dirty cheap and most places sell woodies for buy one get one free or buy one get second 1/2 off. They are shorter then the OPS though, 56 compared to 60.

Instead of getting two R8's, try a R10 and a R4 for the same price.

BTW should have put this at the start, im 6'3 195 lbs. Think i will give a whip a go in a game of pick up.

Sorry for the delayed response. The R2 is a competent, but not spectacular stick. It's a little heavy, but it feels very solid. It's very similar to my NB One50 and my RBK 4K. Right now I'm much happier with my NB Vapor XVI.
