Draft classes take years based on later round picks developing, hidden gems being discovered etc.. but the top 5 are the studs... the guys everyone knows everything about before the draft.

I was going to do 2000-2009 however the 2000 class sporting Dipietro, Klesla and Torres isn't worth mentioning...

using the 2001-2010 draft classes which do you think produced the best... using this time frame and nothing more recent because at this point you know what they are.

2001: Ilya Kovalchuk, Jason Spezza, Alexander Svitov, Stephen Weiss, Stanislav Chistov

2002: Rick Nash, Kari Lehtonen, Jay Bouwmeester, Joni Pitkanen, Ryan Whitney

2003: Marc-Andre Fleury, Eric Staal, Nathan Horton, Nikolay Zherdev, Thomas Vanek

2004: Alexander Ovechkin, Evgeni Malkin, Cam Barker, Andrew Ladd, Blake Wheeler

2005: Sidney Crosby, Bobby Ryan, Jack Johnson, Benoit Pouliot, Carey Price

2006: Erik Johnson, Jordan Staal, Johnathon Toews, Nicklas Backstrom, Phil Kessel

2007: Patrick Kane, James Van Riemsdyk, Kyle Turris, Thomas Hickey, Karl Alzner

2008: Steven Stamkos, Drew Doughty, Zach Bogosian, Alex Pietrangelo, Luke Schenn

2009: John Tavares, Victor Hedman, Matt Duchene, Evander Kane, Brayden Schenn

2010: Taylor Hall, Tyler Seguin, Erik Gudbranson, Ryan Johansen, Nino Niederreiter

it's tough each class had world class players in their class... 2006 being the only class without a "ya but" player though

Toss up between 04/05/06 for me. 06 doesn't feature a player that you can say really doesn't belong, but I also think Crosby + Price and Malkin + Ovi are a better pair than any two players from 06.

Mildly surprised no one has said 2005. Probably has the best forward and goalie of this era + 2 decent NHLers. A few years are close tho.
