It depends what you mean by “right now”. If we mean this season so far, yes he’s been one of he top 5 best players this season so far. But I don’t think anyone sees him as a top 5 player in the nhl at this stage of his career anymore.

I voted “Lower” because it’s been what 17 games? He’s had a renaissance season but that doesn’t discount the last 5 years of mediocre play.

If your an nhl team in a win now mode and need a #1 d man, I definitely would be calling Sam Jose to get something done. E.Karlsson would look great on the leafs or oilers

Probably right around #20, assuming he can keep up this level of play. There will always be questions about his defense, unfortunately.

I’m assuming those voting lower are doing so based on the assumption that a less than 20 game sample isn’t enough to put him back in the top 20 just yet, not that he hasn’t been too 20 so far this season. As much as “right now” should take into account recent play, there should also be an aspect of sustainability to it. And it’s not unreasonable to think 20 players would be better over the rest of the season.

Yeah I'm pretty confused. Do you mean just this season? Over his career? All time?

I mean based on the gigantic 20 game sample size of this season, yeah he's probably Top 5 I guess?

Not top 20 but close. If he keeps his pace up, his stock will keep rising....but I doubt he will finish top 3 in Norris votes
