Maybe I am just not in the know but he got nowhere as much hype as Laf did but that might of course be because Bedard steals it.
Laf wold go ahead of Fantilli for sure - both had dominant seasons and the only mutual ground is the WJC where Laf was dominant and MVP and Fantilli was above average to good at best.
People want to use revisionist history and act like they would have passed on him because of his skating and lack of dynamic skills etc, but that was just not happening, he was as unanimous of a #1 as you can get outside of a Crosby/McDavid/Bedard.
Fantilli goes #1 over Slaf for sure, possibly Power, and maybe Hughes (I think that would be a toss up)
He doesn't go #1 over Laf or Dahlin, I would actually put him in the category of Svechnikov who was an extremely good prospect and has become a very good NHL player that I can still see becoming a 40+ goal scorer. I think Fantilli becomes something similar to that in terms of overall impact. In the Seguin/Eichel category
