To me, this was nearly as good as peak 2014-15 Lundqvist. Curious if others agree or if I'm just working with a short term memory.

I remember Hank being downright magical those years. But I feel like Shesterkin was nearly as good after he settled into the Pittsburgh series in Game 5.

Close to the best, but I would take Hank's 2014 playoffs over Hank 2015 or Igor 2022. Through the conference finals, Hank's numbers were even better, and he could downright shut a game down by allowing 0 or 1. Igor wasn't quite holding opposing teams to that - could have used a shutout or 1 goal game against Tampa in any of the last 4. Hank for sure would have done that in his prime. But that's splitting hairs. These are both legendary performances we're talking about here.

Statistically I believe Igor was slightly better (disregarding GAA) even though the team in front of him was worse defensively than the 2014 & 2015 squads.

Anyone care to find the advanced stats e.g. high dangers sv% and the like?

Hard to go against Hank as he was indeed spectacular in the '14 & '15 runs, but Igor was also unreal, save for the 2 games against Pitt (where we also forgot how to defend the slot and clear the crease).

Hank also had two pretty bad games vs Tampa in '15. Those kind of get forgotten in the memory of Game 7.

Regular season he was as good as Henrik ever was in a single season imo. In the playoffs he had some early hiccups (Games 3 & 4 in PIT), but i chalk those up to playing his first road games against an experienced Penguins team. He put on his big boy pants and was pretty much lights out the rest of the way. He wasnt at "Playoff Henrik" level though. At least not yet. He will get there eventually.

2014 was the most "clean" year for Hank. I believe he had just one really bad game, game 5 against Montreal. I think that ranks ahead of Igor. Igor's was probably somewhere in the 2015 range.

Hank was 1 of 1.

Igor is also 1 of 1. What he did, some of the saves he pulled out with the technicality and athleticism he displayed, was unreal. He showed his chops this year and needs a wheelbarrow to haul them around. Igor's only 26 which is crazy to really think about. Back to back Vezina-caliber goalies.

I put this up there with Hank's best years, probably tied for second best with '15. I loved seeing Shesty take on breakaways, I don't care. He makes it look so easy.

If he can tighten up just a little more in the playoffs they would be unbeatable - whittle the 3/4 goal games down to 2/3 goals, sprinkle in a SO or 1 GA. ;) I'm also totally willing to accept that Igor's a human and know that those games are gonna happen sometimes regardless who's in net, so long as the guys in front can provide him with more support than they gave Hank.

You boys are set in nets for 10 years!!!

Hank was pretty unbelievable in the playoffs. Those deep runs were special but the dude got us a totally undeserved 3-0 lead as an 8th seed in 08 after playing... Idk.. 70 something games. The fact that Hank would play such HUGE workloads through the season and then still turn up in the postseason was what made him one of the greatest ever to play.

Igor was spectacular though. He's a different kind of goalie and it's a different kind of game and he's got a very different kind of team in front of him. Both very special players, but I'll always take Hank. Check back in 10 years ;)

Lundqvist playoff stats from 11/12 to 14/15 - .930 Sv% and a 2.05 Gaa - still only managed a 39 W 36L record.

Eventually they'll have their numbers next to each other in the rafters

Gotta disagree. Think all those Hank seasons are above Igor's first season.

In fact, even seasons being overlooked because we got bounced right away like 2009 were better for Hank. Henrik carried some absolute dumpster fires on his back and almost single-handedly beat a high-flying Capitals team with freaking Redden and Roszival in front of him while Tortorella was getting himself banned from the series for f***ing with idiots in the crowd.

That's to say nothing bad about Igor. For me, the most important relevant benchmark is their first post-season. They both struggled in their very first series, but this time we played a shitty enough team in the first round for us to escape. By the second round Igor looked like Igor - lucky him, getting 20 games in his first whereas Hank only got 4.

Yup, very good points. Ultimately the biggest difference thus far between Igor's run and Hank's contending years is offensive support. Hank knew he had absolutely zero margin for error. Igor was great but there were a number of soft goals that would've lost those Hank teams their series because they wouldn't have been able to score their way out of it. That's why this team is encouraging moving forward because we have the elite goalie and elite offense in front of him. Man, if those Hank teams had just one of Fox, Mika or Panarin they would've won multiple cups.
