Where do you rank Connor Bedard as a player right now? Top ___ ?

I have seen a very wide gap in opinion regarding this question.

Unranked. Presently seems like one of those extraordinarly talented but smallish guys who will spend more time in his career on IR than actually playing. IMHO, needs to finish a full season before anybody even tries to rank him.

Confession- never seen him play. Watched two Blackhawks games this season (and I picked these games specifically for him), but he didn't played in any of those... Number-wise, he seems like a good player on a shitty team, but not in the same tier as rookie Crosby/rookie McDavid (even though the latter also missed significant time in rookie year), and he was advertised as such...

Since he's been injured, the most flattering stat for him will be PPG.

He's 70th in the league in PPG.

So I don't see how you could reasonably rank him higher than top 50.

This also doesn't factor in the defenceman and goaltenders who are better than him.

So maybe top 100 is a more fair ranking.

This time next season however? He could easily see himself top 20 in NHL scoring, rapidly climbing the ranks.

Strictly offensively I think he's top 30ish. Awful team not helping him but he has talent.

Overall not top 100 in terms of a player you'd add on your team right now if the goal is to win a Stanley Cup this year.

3/10 passer. Lot of way to go, kid
Wow. Have you watched Bedard play this season? He’s an elite passer. The thing that separates him from Matthews and Ovechkin at his age is the playmaking. The way he creates opportunities for himself and his teammates as a “shoot-first guy” is unreal.

Second of all, people are comparing him to McDavid and Crosby and making it sound like they had FAR SUPERIOR rookie seasons when that’s simply not true:

Bedard’s first 35 games: 33 points
Crosby’s first 35 games: 37 points
McDavid rookie szn: 48pts in 45 games

Yes, Crosby had a better rookie szn. People forget that it was the second half of his rookie szn where he took the game by storm. Bedard also plays ON A FAR worse team than what McDavid inherited. A competent PP with guys like prime Eberle, Hall, RNH and a young Leon.

The kid is going to be special. Is he a top player in the NHL right now? Obviously not. He’s only played 39 games. However, his play and production so far is just as advertised and slandering him with horrible takes is not right.

1st line scorer. He is nowhere near Crosby as a rookie.

Both Crosby and McDavid were pretty dominating in their rookie seasons, but especially took a huge leap by year 2 and won the scoring race and established themselves as top in the league. I'd agree that Bedard's rookie season isn't quite as good - but to me the real test to see if he's as good as those 2, or even close - will be how Bedard does next year.

Rookie year barely counts - he comes in unacclimated to the NHL, playing in a new league with a new team, and probably the worst team in league.

Year 2 - he'll have had a full year worth of adapting, and a full off-year worth of prepping to come in strong. His own team/teammates will also likely be improved going into year 2.

I'm not saying Bedard is going to necessarily come in and win the Ross next year, but I'd still love to see him actually contend for it.

It is hard to take anything you say seriously when you spell season as szn, it is just so lazy.
