After dumping Nemeth we should hopefully have enough to re-sign Kakko and Motte. I would be happy with that lineup in 2022-23. The real questions are for next offseason.

K'Andre Miller is a star in the making. The Rangers would be smart to lock him up to an 8-year contract, but defensemen get paid a premium nowadays. Ideally he would take a team friendly 6.5 but if Sergachev got 8x8, I could see Key demand the same after a strong season. Laf is gonna need a contract too, but unless he puts up top line production (65+ points, which is entirely possible) I think he'll get a bridge. 5x3 or something like that.

Thankfully the cap is rising soon but these next few years are gonna be tight. I think the Rangers are gonna have to trade two of Goodrow, Kreider, and Trouba in the next 2 years. It's a tough pill to swallow but ideally Laf/Schneider can fill in. I'm praying the cap rises before 2025 because Shesterkin is gonna demand a fleet of Brinks trucks.

And moving on from Kreider and Trouba has always been the move. If we play our cards right, that is.

They will sign Kakko for between $2 and $3 million per year. They have roughly $3 million to play with. Depending on what Kakko is willing to take, they will bank the rest for the trading deadline or sign a fourth line depth piece for the league minimum.

Next offseason will be just as tight.

Dan Rosen said Drury may look to sign a cheap center. Makes sense considering they lost 2.5 with Strome, Copp and Rooney and only replaced 1 with Trocheck.

I love Motte and would love to bring him back but he’s probably right. Drury said they “could have” space to resign him but it didn’t sound convincing.

Blais is coming back and that should help
in that regard. Also leaves a little wiggle room on the roster to keep Othmann around for a cup and/or have Cuylle earn a spot.

It should be Panarin and Goodrow we move on from, not Kreider and Trouba

Just curious what has to happen for people to stop shipping Panarin out? We've just had a fair shot at getting to the SCF. However one spins it he wasn't the worst part (disappointing tho ngl) of the run (rs+sc). Still it seems people can't stop escalating their inner armchair GM and it's somehow always the Breadman on the wrong end of the "calculations". It was Trouba before. When are people gonna switch to Fox or Shesty?))

the cap doesn’t matter when the coyotes are allowed to exist playing at their local college rink

If Miller improves even more than last season and Laf produces, we are in some financial cap trouble.. This is going 1 year at a time right now but it's going to bite us in the ass soon. One of those bigger contracts will have to eventually go.

For this season, I think Motte is gone. I really hate paying Goodrow that type of money while using him on the 4th line.
