“Throughout Pittsburgh sports history, only Sidney Crosby and the Pirates’ Willie Stargell have spent two decades with a team in this city. When the puck drops tonight, Crosby will become just the 11th player in NHL history to spend their entire career with one team spanning a minimum of 20 seasons joining Alex Delvecchio (24), Stan Mikita (22), Steve Yzerman (22), Dit Clapper (20), Jean Beliveau (20), Patrik Elias (20), Henri Richard (20), Ken Daneyko (20) and Nicklas Lidstrom (20). Alex Ovechkin, who is also entering his 20th season with Washington, will be the 12th player in NHL history to accomplish this feat Saturday night when the Capitals take on New Jersey.”

“Entire career with one team” is only true until they cap dump him to Arizona.

one day, far in the future, my children's children will huddle around me

"Grandfather," they will say, "tell us stories about the old NHL. Before the gambling companies mandated that every game end in a tie. Tell us about Sidney Crosby."

I chuckle to myself at the innocence of these children, who are so young that they are the first to be born after Amazon officially purchased all our holidays. "There's only one thing to tell you about Sidney Crosby. He played for a franchise in a city named Pittsburgh, which today is named Greater Shanghai Iron-Production District #5."

"Did he go to the city through an opaque draft lottery win? Did he live in his owner's basement for years on end? Did his fanbase only like hockey when there wasn't an opportunity to hurl racist invective at the coach of the football team instead?"

"Yes," I reply proudly. "And he spent an equal amount of time with one franchise as Dit Clapper and Ken Daneyko did with theirs."

Do coaches count?

Mike Tomlin's got a good shot at sticking around, I think......only needs two more seasons and he's there. :dunno:
