It's very strange. Wins feel good but we're averaging 1 win about every 4 games over what's becoming a reasonable enough sample size. This is an acceptable standard for a "win now" roster for BT/ownership?

The conspiratorial side of me thinks Trotz wants an expansion team of his own, when he first came on he wanted to make a splash at the draft, I think his loyalty to Brunette is partly due to wanting a top pick to build with.

You'll have to catch up to the goal posts to find out. (Last seen heading out of town in the bed of a pickup...)

I'll say this...my gut...Barry has become very adept at changing on the fly. He could very well embrace the lotto ball expectations and if Bruno does get him a top 3 pick along with the TDL grocery shopping for his kinda guys he'll figure out what he wants to do coaching wise

What gives you that impression? If anything he changes too much on the fly

He has done everything in good faith and when he is wrong he's trying to make a positive out the pile of shit. He's not going to waste being wrong. He'll get at least 1 of the NTCs to waive. watch

Getting one of them to wave isn't the issue, getting someone else to take them is where the problem comes in.
Retain half of Stamkos for a contender with high end forwards Get some big guys who skate well in return lol. If he'd have resigned everyone he let go we'd be in good shape this year. Beaver Zucker Sherwood... all fit much better. Then the majic bullet of keeping Lanks and Askarov while getting a haul for Saros. oh well let's see what this year's shitshow is gonna produce.

Zucker maybe, the other two didn't do enough that any team would have given them another contract. Especially ole Beaver Boy, he was awful.

Even retained Stamkos isn't bringing back much, let alone getting " big guys that can skate ".

Signing a future Hall of Famer as a "cereal winner" to a massive contract and then dumping him overboard less than a full season into that contract sends a message to future free agents as well as tying up that retention spot for many years to come. It signals that the GM is not at all adept at constructing a roster but actually inept at formulating a vision and in how he handles contracts and the cap. It puts him behind the 8 ball in future deals as agents will not forget it.

Good luck to him, but Barry's early tenure as our GM has been a fustercluck.

I mean if it came out that Stamkos wanted to go he would save a bit of reputation, but not completely. I mean if I'm an agent of an older player I love Trotz. He's the kind of sucker you look for.

Exactly. Trotz will have to overpay again/even more for his next cereal winner. Overpayment with the expectation of getting a quick out to somewhere competitive with an actual plan becomes the selling point. It's not some fantasy league; this is a business with real people who have relationships and talk to one another.

PS: It's also putting the cart before the horse and contradictory to (1) keep Bruno and go tanking, (2) make big moves at the TDL (if even possible) to get guys suited to the system (why wasn't that done in the offseason? what's the point, to get a worse draft position?), and then (3) figure out who the coach will be at the end of the season.
