Whatever happened to Teresa Kruze?

Okay, in all seriousness I know this answer, at least I know where she is right now. But I'll get to that.

But before that happens, a little backstory. Who is Teresa Kruze to some? She commentated on Sportscenter during the 1990s. She previously was known as Teresa Hergert before she was married (she is the sister in law of Martin Kruze, the man who committed suicide that was one of the victims of the Maple Leaf Gardens abuse scandal). She was a woman who I thought had a "voice" for sports and she is probably the only one I would say that about that I can remember. It reminded me when I saw and heard a couple of minutes of the (forced?) broadcast of the Vegas/Calgary game tonight for International Women's Day. Cassie Campbell just does not have a voice for hockey, not even close and neither did either of the other women I heard tonight. All it did was remind me of a situation where I would have loved to have heard Kruze call a game.

She had a flow in her voice, she knew hockey well, you could tell it was in her blood. She was pretty, but you also knew she wasn't a crooked tooth away from NOT getting the job either (sorry people, this is reality and unfortunately TV will never hire a woman that isn't pretty on sports broadcasts).

She just recently tried to become an MPP in the last Federal election in Canada in 2019 so it looks like her career is focused on politics. But why did she ever leave TSN? Or sports in general? To this day there is no woman I have ever heard that knew her stuff better than her.

not sure what you are getting at

but she left TSN because changes were coming and she decided instead of waiting for something to happen she decided she wanted a change and if you know anything about her she is a dynamic person with lots of different interest where she may not want to be pidgeon hold in being a sports reporter

I will use John Roberts who is with Foxnews now and CNN before that. For people of my age he still J D Roberts. the male eye candy of Much Music. He started out as a VJ on a music station and is now better known for hard hitting journalism. People sometimes want to be more than they are and follow a different career path to get there

I feel the same way whenever someone mentions Hip Hop Star and occasional thespian Marky Mark of the Funky Bunch.

Do you actually want to talk about Kruze, or did you just want to vent about how society is changing?

I listened for a couple of minutes to the Flames/Vegas game and that was about all I could take because it was so out of place and emotionless, and that doesn't even take into account it was forced. It immediately made me think about Teresa Kruze and how she had the sort of voice to be able to pull that sort of thing off. Had a voice for sports, smooth and flowing and a lot of intellect. Wish she was still doing it.

Oh I am sure, I just thought she was very good at what she did

She was good. Where is the pitiful Mike Toth these days? Used to laugh at his own shitty jokes.

Did Brendan Connors disappear as well?

Toth either had that "aww shucks" appeal with people or he annoyed the heck out of you. I always have gotten irritated at Jay and Dan. Sorry, never got them. I do remember Toth once describing Hejduk (I think it was Toth) describing a goal by Hejduk and saying his name like "Hey-Duke" in the same tone as "Hey Jude" and then go on to hum the tune of the song. I mean, it was funny. For some reason I remember that. He was goofy and I can get that it might have irritated people. I remember Toth always sitting next to his partner and nodding very vigourously when they said something he agreed with. He had his quirks.

I remember Connors. For a while he and Michael Lansberg were the 1-2 punch on Sportscenter (I think it was called Sportsdesk back then) during the Teresa Kruze days. I guess these guys don't always stick with their craft.

Wow, what a blast from the past.

Kruze is like the first woman broadcaster that I can remember, followed by Lisa Bowes.

I went to school with Ken Chilibeck's son. He was a big mouth kid who thought he was cool. Hopefully Ken taught him to keep his mouth shut eventually. Doubtful though

Well, his kid's attitude notwithstanding, I always loved his line at the end "Ken Chillibeck.............TSN." He said this everytime he reported. They all did, but his name was so unique to say.

You know how people say an actor has "acting chops"? Well, I always felt Kruze had "hockey chops" if that makes sense. You could always sense she knew the game inside and out just by her lingo and the way she talked. Someone like, say, Jennifer Hedger, I just never thought of her as someone who came off as knowing a lot about sports. Maybe she does, but Kruze seemed to own it every time.

A few sportscasters have come and gone for sure over the past # of years. Lisa Hilary also who was on TSN back in the day, whatever became of her?

Rod Smith is still going strong at the network. Studio host for most of TSN's CFL broadcasts.
