What the heck is Guerin doing on team USA?

This guy sure isn't having a great year.

Neither are Doan, Draper, St Louis, Bouwmeester, Reghier, Lecavalier, Bertuzzi, etc. but they all made Team Canada

Guerin is in the same boat; "he brings International Experience"

Who knows, but maybe Billy has been saving up his goal coupons for the Olympics.

"Yes, I'd like to cash these in now for the gold medal please."

He is American, he's been here before. Thats why he's here.

Americans don't exactly have the bumper-crop of youth to inject into their roster like Canada....... yet.

Then where is JR!?

U.S. has some hot players on the roster... Gionta, Rolston, Tkachuk, Cole, Modano... their failure will be in not putting Miller in net.

Lecavalier is on pace for about his career averages... Doan also isnt far off an average season for him... Bertuzzi hasn;t been play that bad for the Canucks after a tenative start... St. Louis is severly overrated people think he is some great scorer but he has only had more then 40 points and 20 goals in his career twice... he is on pace to have his 3rd year of each... but still very overrated i would much rather see spezza or staal on the team... Regehr is not an offensive defenseman by any means has already matched his career highs in assists and points and is only 1 shy of a career goal total... not to mention the Flames were soemthing like 5-7-2 without regehr... and have gone 29-10-5 since he returned from his injury to start the season

I could say the same about half of Team USA's roster.

I normally agree with you, but in this instance I don't. Aside from perhaps two or three players the U.S. brass is spot on with this roster. It might not be the most talented team out there, but it's the right team.

Yay, and imagine if he was taking up a roster spot while the 3rd leading point scorer sat around? Some countries have that problem.

Want to go to Italy this winter?

Captain the Phoenix Coyotes. It's a lock.

Guerin is on the roster because the people who run Team USA are smart enough to realise that how a player is playing on the Dallas Stars isn't necessarily the same as how they'll play on the American Olympic team.

Despite struggling offensively, Guerin hasn't lost his speed. He's one of the fastest US skaters, and that speed is an asset on international ice. He brings a little grit as well which meshes nicely on this team.

Just don't bet on it....

Good post. It should also be noted that Guerin has seemed to have found his scoring touch of late. A reunited Modano/Guerin/Tkachuk line should do quite well at this point.

How has Tkachuck been doing lately?

Guerin only once had 40 goals in his career anyways. He's never been a star in this league. But yet it still surprised me that he went 18 straight games without a goal this year. Guerin is now 35 years old, this should be his last intl experience.

Yep, no Miller is a joke.

Tkachuk has played extremely well. To boot: if you would pro-rate his stats over a full season he would be challenging Jagr for the scoring lead. He's a differance maker for the Blues and he'll be the same for the U.S.

The Americans actually have a pretty good combination of speed and grit. If they all perform to their ability they might have a better chance than what people are saying around here. They definately need to make sure they are physical, especially against teams not known for being scrappy.

Although I agree St Louis is overated and quite honestly don't even like him on the team....but unfortunately can't replace him with Staal or Spezza..neither can play right wing...

Getting to watch Regher every game I can say that you're definetly wrong there, he has had an awesome season, and as much as Phaneuf is the big name right now in Calgary, it is still Regher holding down the D.

Call me a homer if you will, but I think putting Langenbruner on the team and on a line with Gomez and Gionta would do well.
