What if Podkolzin does Nichushkin?

Podkolzin is a good hockey player that has a good hockey IQ and plays really hard. I don't think he has a high-end offensive upside but he does so much well that even if he could turn into a 40-50 point level player he would be a really good player.

It's what people used to say about Nuke, and then he turned into a scoring machine...

Podkolzin was doing all the right things and working like a dog before during and after every practice leading into this streak, so happy that he is starting to finally get goals. Not sure he gets to even 40 points this year but that kind of effort rubs off on everyone else.

I don't think he's ever had the same pure "scoring upside" as Nuke. He's just not as clever, nor as good a natural finisher. He's also always been a bit of a "streaky" player. If you can keep his confidence up, or he can figure out how to be a little bit more mentally resilient when things aren't just rolling easily for him though...he has the potentially to be a very good, Top-9 complementary Winger who does all those little things you want. Brings physicality, can control the puck, dish the puck with the easy pass, and a good enough finisher to chip in offensively.

This is basically why i never understood giving him up for basically nothing.

He's been put in a position to succeed before and then faltered massively after that. If he's grown past that, then great for him and the Oilers. Time was up in Vancouver.

Edit: He's got 3 goals in 24gp.

I could see him be Nuke like but more his first two years in Colorado. I don’t think he has near-PPG offensive upside. He does a lot of things right but has never been a big scorer at any level. But he could still turn out to be a really valuable player

Well it's in the last 3 games and immediately before that he was getting a lot of media and player attention for playing well. That's why this thread was made.
