Seeing the olympics coming up, what players with ties or ethnicity but wrong nationality would be great fit in their national teams? What players would you fit a team without any ties?

Ie. Aleksander Barkov has russian parents and he would be perfect for Russia. Matt Niskanen has finnish roots and if he didn't retire he would be great dman for Finland. Finland would love to get some more quality defensemen and someone like Ryan Suter would be a great fit.

Players are essentially allowed to do this in the World Baseball Classic. If you have even one parent from a certain country, you are allowed to play for that country's national team.

Mika Zibanejad would be a great add - Barko, Aho, Zib and Hintz down the middle

It is the same for soccer too and should be for hockey too.

What if players were selected by where they live? The US would win all the medals.

Mcdavid, Draisatl, Matthews, Marner, Connor, Tkachuk x2, Scheifele, Pettersson, Ehlers, Geaudreau, PLD, Suzuki, Nylander, Lindholm

Reilly, Hughes, Morrissey, Nurse, OEL, Kylington

Hellebuyck, Campbell, Markstrom

Maybe a little weak on D, but those forwards are pretty insane.

Soo... Canadian NHL all star team vs American NHL all star team vs KHL all stars (well the teams in Russia) vs SHL, Liiga, NL and DEL all stars. A sideshow among sideshows.

Barkov and Ovechkin on the same line together? Holy shit I'd love to see that but Barky is too nice to be a full blooded Russian (*take a joke Russians*)

MacKinnon, Kucherov, Ovechkin, Crosby, Bergeron, Marchand, Point, Barkov, Aho, Kopitar, Panarin, Kane, Stamkos, Huberdeau .....
Hedman, Makar, Fox, Slavin, Ekblad, Carlson, Josi, Heiskanen, McAvoy ...
Vasilevskiy, Shesterkin, Binnington ...

Love the enthusiasm, but we're getting smoked.

I think the Canadian forwards and goalies match up fine. You could even say that Canada boasts the top 2 players in the world.

D is not close though.

Agreed - I actually think a game realistically could go either way, but sweet jesus that U.S defense would be unfair.

To kinda return to the OP's topic - I recently read that Lucas Raymond's father Jean was born in France and moved to Sweden as a teenager.

So Lucas probably also has French citizenship (or at least could very easily attain it). Anyone else think he'd instantly become the NHL's best Frenchman of all time (Move over Huet, Bellemere, and Bozon)?

It is independence day here in Finland. What if Soviets had rolled over Finland in winter war? Team Russia would look like this then. NOTE: Sweden would also be gone as they wouldn't have been able to stand against Russia with their bad army(FIN saved them).

Panarin-Barkov-Kucherov
Oveckhin-Aho-Rantanen
Kaprizov-Malkin-Svechnikov
Landeskog-Hintz-Kuznetsov

Pettersson, Bäckström,Teräväinen, Ziba, ..

Heiskanen-Klingberg
Hedman-Sergachev
Ekholm-Provorov

Vasilevskiy, Shesterkin, Markström

Canada-killer. But I'm thankful that instead of this we are gonna kick Russia's ass once again in Peking
