What happens with Mikyehev when he comes back?

Mik goes or Kerfoot goes? Each guy brings exactly da same type of game - speed speed and more speed in either a 2nd or 3rd line role .. both are more defensive than offensive .. Mik is cheaper AAV and bigger .. I still think Kerfoot should be one to go for a VET D and/or a 2nd round pick but Mik wants OUTTA here unless he plays on one of top 2 lines so maybe it is him who goes for a 2nd round pick and then trade Holl for a vet D at 1M AVV to pick up needed CAP space
I don't think they're comfortable with Willie or Spezza stepping up in a C role if someone gets injured so Kerfoot gets a pass. Engvall and Mikheyev for me are interchangeable with Mikheyev having the higher upside, although Engvall seems more likely to reach his ceiling.

The giraffe will be replaced by his upgraded Russian counter part.
Both fast, solid defensively, can’t finish, think they are better than they are. Just mik is a bit better at everything compared to Pierre

This is what I would do:

Bunting-Matthews-Marner
Kerfoot-Tavares-Nylander
Mikheyev-Kampf-Kase
Engvall-Spezza-Simmonds

I think Engvall has looked really good on that third line, but putting him there would mean Bunting or Mikheyev on the 4th which isn’t ideal. And Mikheyev is so similar to Engvall so theoretically it should still work

I'd put Mikheyev with Matthews and Marner, sit Ritchie

Ritchie has 0 redeeming qualities IMO, at least Engvall is effective defensively and on the PK.
I dunno. I kinda like Simmonds and Ritchie crashing and banging w/ Spezza. Not jiust a couple of thugs, but bangers that have some skill.
Mikheyev wasn't a top 6 player before he got injured so I don't see any reason to try him there after a long injury layoff. Then again, Keefe sure does love juggling his lines so anything's possible.

More likely he gets a start or two on the 4th line to get him back into the grind of it, then to the 3rd line with Engvall getting bumped down and Ritchie sits.
I don't think Ritchie will sit. His presence is making the core play bigger, particularly 34.

Ritchie has underwhelmed big time. We can surely all agree on that. But I agree with you that there is likely unseen value that he's providing to the teams skilled guys. He leads us in hits, which isn't nothing. Also agree about him with Simmonds...that 4th line has looked really good together imo. Ritchie isn't going anywhere.
Engvall is the choice over Mikheyev for me. He has been part of this winning team, is younger, and can play center if need be. He's also cheaper. Grant Mikheyev his trade wish and package him with Holl or Dermott for a D upgrade.

If he scored at a top 6 rate he'd be a top 6 forward he's not because he doesn't.

He's heating up a little bit but he's not a top 6 forward

On a per 60 minute basis at even-strength, he does. No one is saying he's a top-six forward. I'm saying he's scores efficiently as one and is defensively competent. Why people want to take this player out of the lineup is absolutely bizarre.

I still can't believe Engvall got absolutely laid out by a much smaller guy...I thought he was supposed to be this big strong guy.
Don't read anything into that as guys who are tall can go down even harder .. I am 6ft5 and played around 220lbs and you can get wiped out just da same .. it is not about being big and strong if someone else who is strong gets underneath you it can happen

I'll give him credit, he looked like the Mikheyev that debuted and played like a stud. His wristers seemed to have that snap to it that we haven't really seen since pre hand injury. Granted 1 goal was basically open net and the break away was not like he roofed it, but I thought I saw a difference with his release throughout the night.

That was the main issue I had with him, his speed and IQ was always there but his hands were an issue. Now its just 1 game so lets not get ahead of ourselves. We need these guys to be playing like this in the playoffs and score in tight games where both teams top 6 cancel eachother out.

Fact of the matter is he had a career-threatening wrist injury. A deep cut into the most important puck-handling tendons in the body.

His year 1 did not actually have a lot of fluke in it - his percentages didn't seem fluky, and he didnt' even get any PP time.

But there is very chance he's permanently disabled from that wrist injury - but if he isn't, and it just took a long time to fully heal, then watch out, because this is a very, very good player.

fingers crossed.

Mikheyev stays over both Ritchie and Engvall. Like other posters have said, Clifford brings the same as Ritchie for a fraction of the cost, as for Engvall, he's just way too inconsistent of a player for me. Even if Mikheyev isn't scoring at a great clip, he still brings a lot more to the table then Engvall.

That’s it for me. Engvall and Ritchie are the bottom two. I’d lean to Ritchie over Engvall. It’ll be interesting to see how they manage this.

I don't want to lose bodies with all the games we've got and with the variant out there. I'd waive Ritchie to the Marlies and then we can emergency recall him or call him up when someone else ends up on LTIR. Come playoff time we can decide if we want Ritchie or Engvall in the lineup.

Mikheyev had a good game, that's for sure, but I need to see more.

At the moment, I would have to think that Ritchie is the 13th forward on a team that can only carry 12 forwards, but that could change overnight.

Ritchie is likely to clear waivers and would still be available on the taxi squad in the very likely event he gets called back up, if and when he were to be put on waivers. If he were waived and didn't clear, then the Leafs would recover the full $2.5- million of much needed cap space, so it would almost be a no-lose proposition for the Leafs.

Mind you, it's all up in the air and everything could change at any moment.
