That argument sounds suspiciously like the one posters used when they wanted a certain winger removed from Matthews LW, I remember you being against fixing things that aren't broke then

That was you wasn't it?

Forgive me for having some doubts about somebody that's been back for plenty of time and still couldn't hit the ass end of a barn from 10 feet
Yes I did say if it ain't broke don't fix it a few times, but that was never my primary argument. My primary reasoning was that we did not have another player on the team that could fill Hy... His role on that line.
Posters would say kapanen or whoever, but I maintained that he could not do what the fixture on that line did.
In this case mik should and could fill in and possibly surpass what engvall brings to the line.
All of miks skills match engvall and mik has, in the beginning, shown more offensive acumen than engvall.

its a rule in most sports, you dont just lose your spot on the team based off of injury, im sure at the start he will get rotated in with simmons/spezz/engvall/ritchie etc and they will evaluate further as he gets games in.

Are we forgetting Andersen? He lost his spot to Soup due to injury last year, and as a result was cut lose in the off-season. If I were Keefe, I would take Ritchie out (useless left tit that he is), and put Mikalekev on the 4th line, gives the leafs much needed added speed and more defenisve prowness.

Ok, here what happens.....
Ist period in first game back, he gets a breakaway, misses the net, retrieves the puck, circles around the net, tries a jamb play, fails, gets the rebound and puts a backhand over the net, over the glass.
Joe Bowen blows a gasket and Jim Ralph falls off his chair laughing.
All is back to normal in Leaf land.

as we saw in the documentery, keefe clearly had issues with andersen long before that injury, so im not sure that would be the right example.

Amen. He literally looks like a giraffe on skates. He has zero finish too. At least Mikheyev can skate fast.

Do you know any other 6" 5, 25 year old players that can skate faster and play centre and wing? The hate this guy gets; is ridiculous. Reminds me of the Corry Cross, Aki Berg and Larry Murphy days. FYI, no one claimed Engvall was going to be an offensive juggernaut, and I can assure you the majority of 7th round NHL picks dont come close to what he has done. Take a look

Mikheyev hasn't done anything offensive since the injury

He's also asked for a trade because he wanted more of an opportunity offensively, even though he's done nothing to warrant it

Compete and deserve the job or **** off, he's owed nothing

FYI. I never claimed nor expected Engvall to be an offensive juggernaut. I just think Mik would be a better option due to his skating. Obv you have a soft spot for him otherwise you wouldn’t be so defensive. He sucks at skating and can’t finish mik can’t finish but can skate. Just my opinion.

Was the trade request real or rumour?

It's a tough league and a serious injury. No need to write him off while he's still under contract and again if he doesn't help to improve that 3rd line, move him down.
My feeling is that he will do well there once he gets up to speed, so massive start him on the 4th line for a bunch of games until he shows he's got his legs going.
Either way to write him off until we see what he can do is folly IMHO

Wow lots of passionate discussion here about Engvall vs Mikheyev lol, honestly folks, its not going to matter that much, there isn't a vast difference between these 2, and while Mikey will get a chance once he's back from injury, if he doesn't perform, it will be back to Engvall..no big deal.

I think we need to keep both in case Kase gets injured and then the one not playing takes that spot.
Still being an amazing defensive line:
Engvall Kampf Mik

You think Engvall is a bad skater? The guy is a great skater, especially combined with his height/length.

In terms of forward speed it goes:

1. Mikheyev - Incredible speed, one of the fastest players in the league
2. Kerfoot
3. Nylander/Engvall

then a big drop to a bunch of guys who you could make an argument for 5th

The team is 9-1 in their last 10, the PP is top 10, the PK is top 5, the team is tied for 3rd overall in the entire league.

the team is rolling and Mikyehev isn't far away, and as of right now I don't see a spot for him.

Sure I don't like Engvall he's a black hole offensively and Ritchie has been the same but everything is clicking right now the group has great on ice chemistry so where do you put Mikyehev without messing with that?

because tinkering to much right now is risky.

If they can sit Ritchie in the Presser or waive him, I'm all for it. Mikky does not score like Ritchie but he can at least play without the puck.

In his first 2 years, with Engvall he had noticeable break way speed. I've noticed this year that break way speed is gone, he does not separate himself from the back checker any more.

Stop trying to re-write history.

Aki was loved by all in Toronto.

Good luck finding a #8 Berg jersey. Sold out everywhere.

Last game it was comedic watching him skate around but he’s not horrible for his size. But I’m comparing him to Mik and that’s the very point I was making. Replace him with the better skater and see how it goes.

Engvall's excellent speed is exactly what makes him so good at skating the puck out of danger from the defensive zone and pressuring the dmen in the offensive zone.

He'll never be a wizard with the puck, but the heavy shot gives him some danger offensively.

He has 0 danger offensively, he is a black hole offensively
