The team is 9-1 in their last 10, the PP is top 10, the PK is top 5, the team is tied for 3rd overall in the entire league.

the team is rolling and Mikyehev isn't far away, and as of right now I don't see a spot for him.

Sure I don't like Engvall he's a black hole offensively and Ritchie has been the same but everything is clicking right now the group has great on ice chemistry so where do you put Mikyehev without messing with that?

because tinkering to much right now is risky.

I did notice that in the clip last night where Phaneuf got his banner raised in the training facility (when Rielly was speaking) that Mikheyev was there doing the workout with the team. I imagine he's not too far away.

It's been about 5 weeks I believe. Was the initial diagnosis 6-8 weeks? I can't recall.

Mikheyev wasn't a top 6 player before he got injured so I don't see any reason to try him there after a long injury layoff. Then again, Keefe sure does love juggling his lines so anything's possible.

More likely he gets a start or two on the 4th line to get him back into the grind of it, then to the 3rd line with Engvall getting bumped down and Ritchie sits.

We are rolling after a rocky start, but we’re still 8/9 in point % with two primo candidates for replacement in Engvall and Ritchie.

Everybody panicked with Keefe changing the line before Nashville game and we played arguably our best game this calendar year.

Supplement and change always welcome.

My guess is he'll alternate with Engvall and either gets to keep the spot as long as they play better than the other.

This is most likely the answer, though I also imagine a scenario when they have him sit until the team goes through a bad stretch.

For me, I'd see him or Engvall as an asset to be traded for prospects/draft picks. Use the savings to seek out a strong, veteran D man at the deadline.

They'll probably start him on the 3rd line and until he can prove he can put the puck in the net......for 1.6 I would say move him

Cap room presents options and injuries create cap room. Mikheyev replacing Engvall on a line with Kampf and Kase appears to make for a seamless fit. Mikheyev counting for more against the cap than Engvall does might not solve that potential problem though.

What is the penalty for going over the cap when Mikheyev returns ?

I'm fairly certain they'd have to find a way to become cap compliant in order to play (ex. play with less than the full complement of players if need be). The offseason and playoffs present the only instances in which a team can be over the cap IIRC.

I've always viewed Mik and Engvall as interchangeable. They both bring the same qualities albeit, Engvall has a longer reach and a touch slower in straight line speed.

I think Mik would fit like a glove with Kampf - Kase but likely gets a shot in the top 6. Makes sense to try considering neither of Ritchie/Bunting have really worked on that top line.

I honestly have no clue what will happen.

Micheyev is 100% going to be an auto start in this lineup, he is just such an effective player whether he is able to put up points or not. I thought the obvious subtraction from the lineup was Engvall when Ilya first got hurt, but credit to Pierre he really has been playing well, and it would be a shame to HS him when he finally seems to be simplifying his game and making smarter reads. Ultimately, injuries always occur and Pierre will draw back in at some point. I think I'd trade one of Dermott or Holl to make the cap work, and run this lineup

Bunting - Matthews - Marner
Kerfoot - JT -Nylander
Micheyev - Kampf - Kase
Ritchie - Spezza - Simmonds
Engvall

Reilly - Dermott
Muzzin - Brodie
Sandin - Liljegren

Campbell/Mrazek

someone can vet my cap compliancy, but I think the subtraction of Holl in lieu of Micheyev makes sense because Holl has a higher AAV.

I know Bunting is not Ideal on the top line, but he's also never played with Mitch and Auston together, and truthfully I think Ritchie looked pretty good with Spezza and Simmer.

I will say, Engvall seems to get a raw deal here. I've been very critical of him in the past but he is playing very well lately. Sucks to yank him especially for an underperforming Ritchie, but I think there is negative element of Pierre's game that can sometimes get masked by Kampf and Kase's relentlessness. I'm trying not to take anything away from Pierre, although I know I am, I just think he would be less effective with Spezza and Simmer. He seems to compliment Kampf and Kase so well, but I have hesitations putting him with players that have higher turnover to takeaway ratios, because I think Pierre tends to get into trouble when he tries forcing plays.

Before his first injury where his wrist got cut he very much was a top 6 player. 23 points in 39 games as a rookie.
