What happens with a fake whistle?

ive been wondering this for a long time. Aside from being banned for life I wonder if there are any rules about this. Possible penalties or something that would happen.

You are at your teams game. It’s game 7 and the game is tied. There’s 30 seconds left and the visiting team is on a break away. It’s 3 on one and it looks like they will score for the win. Then a fan in the seats pulls out a whistle he snuck in and blows it. The players on the ice stop play...what happens? Has it ever happened? of course the fan needs to be just over the glass in the perfect spot for the players to be fooled let’s assume they are. It’s such a huge thing. What would officially happen?

You'd probably end up with a face-off in the offensive zone (a bit of a rip-off I know). It's not like in the UFC where they put the fighters back into position when the ref calls a timeout.

This is like when that fan threw the puck on the ice that one time, and there were 2.

I think it was in the 90's.

Something similar happened during a Canada v. Czech Republic game at the World Championships about 5 or 7 years ago. A fan whistled, all players except one Canadian stopped playing, the player scored and the goal stood. This excuse of a fan was truly annoying, it took like 2 periods to find and silence him.

Not an interesting question once you know that the whistles the regs have are speciality made and in fact sound a little different to store bought whistles

I did not know that. Interesting. But let’s say the players are still fooled. Is it a simple faceoff in the offensive zone as thenameless said? I read rexors reply and think of the home team stopping and the away team scoring. Would the refs say that’s what you get for doing that the goal stands? Does it not count? I’m wondering what would happen if it did. Not how it wouldn’t happen.

So always take the shot after the whistle like in basketball.

Otherwise just give a penalty shot to the away team and watch the guy with the whistle get murdered.

I would think, at the minimum, that the home team would be assessed a delay of game penalty as has occasionally happened when home crowds throw debris on the ice.
