Yes it's still 2-3 weeks out assuming the 6 weeks was right, what happens with the lines you have 10 guys for 9 spots, who's odd man out? Assuming we are healthy in the mean time:

Thornton - Matthews - Marner

Don't change what isn't broken.

Kerfoot - Tavares - Nylander

Tavares has been better as of late and Nylander is absolutely rolling. Kerfoot has been decent and the line is playing well so unlikely he gets pushed off.

Mikheyev - Engvall - Hyman

I've haven't seen much of the rest of the league in the last little bit but I can still confidently this is the best 3rd line in hockey since being put together. Hyman and Mikheyev are our Draper and Maltby. Engvall has really settled in to that 3C roll.

Vesey - Spezza - Boyd

One of Vesey or Boyd will be out when Simmonds comes back but this line has been good too.

1- The top line won't be touched assuming they maintain.

2- Simmonds could take Kerfoot's spot on the second line but you're not putting Kerfoot on the 4th line.

3- Third line is playing great, do you put Kerfoot back at 3c and push Engvall to the 4th when that line has been going so well?

Depth is a great problem to have i'm just curious where we stand at full health now that guys have settled into spots a bit after the start of the season rotation.

Vesey comes out. Simmonds can take his spot and if he's too good for the fourth line he can slide up into Kerfoot's spot.

Good problems. I would hazard a guess that Hyman moves back up, Kerfoot comes down. I wouldn't want to break up the Mik-Engvall combo right now so maybe Kerfoot to the 4th with some special teams play?

You trade for Rackell retained and slot him beside Tavares, with Kerfoot going the other way.

Simmonds steps in beside Spezza and Vesey and Boyd rotate almost every night. If one guy plays a great game, you reward him with two in a row.

Thornton / Matthews / Marner
Rackell / Tavares / Nylander
Mikheyev / Engvall / Hyman
Simmonds / Spezza/ Boyd or Vesey

Go challenge for a Cup.

Just spit ballin here, but Babcock used Hymen at center when penalty killing. When Simmonds comes bsck, how bout Soupy, Hymie and Simmonds? Be a frustrating, nasty line.

Put him back with Tavares 5 v 5. Tavares has been pretty awful this year and Simmonds paired with Nylander on his wing seems to be what he needs. The 2nd line needs a grinder type of player, Kerfoot is only there as a placeholder.

This is the lineup I'm thinking. Only change I'd make is switching Spezza and Boyd. The nice thing is, you have 3 guys on the 4th line who are centers and you could pretty easily swap out Kerfoot for any one of them and look fine. I know Vesey scored a few times tonight but he's been useless outside of killing penalties this year.

Chances are someone will probably get hurt by then. But if everyone is healthy, I think we see Simmonds promoted to the 2nd line where he's a much better fit and I think Kerfoot is on the 4th line.

Jumbo - Matty - Mitch - 1A
Willy - JT - Wayner - 1B
Hyman - Giraffe - Soup - Shutdown line 1A
Vesey/ Boyd - Spezza - Kerfoot - Shutdown line 1B

Assuming we're still rolling and are actually healthy for once I'd just take out Vesey and plug Simmonds in his spot. Leave the top 9 alone.

Thornton Matthews Marner
Kerfoot Tavares Nylander
Mikheyev Engvall Hyman
Simmonds Boyd Spezza

You can ease Thornton's minutes and give Simmonds a few extra shifts 5 on 5 with Matthews and Marner.

The spot of either Vesey or Boyd will no longer be secure. Vesey's advantage lies within the PK. Boyd's advantage is the ability to play centre.

I hope if they do take out Boyd the plan isn't to try Spezza down the middle. Spezza looks much better on the wing IMO. Not a fan of his at centre even though he's great on faceoffs.

Both players would have helped themselves out with tonight's performances. I agree with you about Spezza on the wing. With all things taken into consideration, I'd hope they opt to keep Boyd in the lineup over Vesey when decision time comes.

Boyd has been playing well on the 4th line he stays in Vesey comes out, unless Vesey continues to produce like he did tonight then he stays and Boyd comes out, but I don’t see that happening hope I’m wrong but I think the 2 goals tonight was a fluke.
