This offensive group (outside of A few players) lacks chemistry. They struggled against the Swedes to generate offense. For all the hype this offence got it's a Pretty disappointing group of forwards so far and the Americans smothered them defensively for 60 mins tonight.
They don't play as a team. They try to generate offense by skating with the puck.

We can start with leaving elite talent at home to fill out the roster with worthless plugs like Cirelli and Bennett. Sound familiar?

Well its not like the Americans exploded against Team Canada either. Both teams were pretty evenly matched and it could've went either way, just that in this game Team Canada made one more mistake than the US team did and then they played some great shutdown defense the rest of the way and Helly made the saves he needed to when called upon.

Play this game again and it could be 3-1 going the other way.

Too many multi-million dollar contracts. You want to bring in guys who stand to gain financially from putting in maximum effort in these tournaments. Maybe they'll get a bigger contract, maybe they'll get traded to a playoff team as their trade value goes up, etc.

I feel like the best international team would consist of players who play for bottom tier NHL teams and want to get recognized for their skills.

Cooper made sure to get his boys on the team over picking the best players.

Also, the teams get basically no practice time. It should get better as the tournament progresses. That said, it's not like they've won their gold medals 10-0. They beat the US 2-1 in the last gold medal game also.

People only care about how many goals you score when you lose.

All East/West, All Skating Individually, Nothing Direct.

The team pulled the goalie, had 6 skaters on the ice, dump the puck in, and one guy went for the puck. That is just sad.

People really underestimate the prowess of Helleybuck. He's so calm and in position always it's how a Jets team with Mediocre talent can end up top of the league

Hockey Canada thinking they're the smartest in the room again by leaving Scheifele and Hyman at home
It was the Binnigton decision that was the most baffling

Long before the tournament started everyone and their grandmas were saying Team USA has the best defense and goalies, and if Canadas offense was 1a, then USAs was 1b...so I'm not really sure what OP was expecting to happen here

McDavid and MacKinnon both are adjusting to having very different wingers than they usually do.

Crosby is still hurt and looks a little off on the wing.

Cooper insists on having all his grit in the bottom six - need to spread it out and give the top six more forechecking for when McDavid and MacKinnon can't just skate it in and superman it.
