Scoring 30+ goals in his early 20's, had a 70 point season as a 23 year old. Why was there a decline when he could have gotten even better? I truly believed he was about to break out to become a super star player. I know he's still a solid player but you can say he declined at such a young age where most players improve in their mid 20's.

The NHL happened to him. Clutch, grab, interference. It's just not easy to score goals anymore and he's one of the many that have had their creativity stifled because of systems and inability to call the game by the rule book.

Burke was right about him.

“He is not intense. That word is not in his vocabulary,†Burke said during one meeting, as quoted by ESPN.com. “It’s never going to be in his vocabulary. He can’t spell intense.â€

Plain and simple when you watch him play he doesn't "bring it" much. Star players with the same type of skill set play more minutes with intensity.

Has nothing to do with intensity and everything to do with speed. Players entering the league are much faster than before and if you don't have the wheels you simply don't have time to do anything.

Second factor was Zibanejad being a black hole of chemistry for anyone who played with him. A right handed shot with poor vision and playmaking lined up with a right handed winger who needs to shoot.

Wrong, he can't skate and his fitness is sub par. Hard to build those habits this late. He plays hard but runs out of gas in the second half. Brian Burke and his questionable moves are hardly the be all and end all he shoots off his mouth and makes himself look silly.

He's still a very good player, nothing really happened to him.

It's easier to score more when you have elite sniper and elite playmaker next to you.

Great guy, love him as a person. Seems extremely likeable.

Incredibly frustration to watch play, unless he's scoring goals.

When he's "off", he's just kind of going through the motions.

I do hope he proves me wrong and has an amazing season with a new guy centering him.

Ok, I take it back, his intensity is great but he's too lazy to stay in shape in order to use it. :sarcasm:

His career arc has actually been pretty normal for a scoring winger. A lot of them peak before 25.

His fall-off has been only a little sharper than you would expect, and some of that has to do with an overall decline in scoring.

He's suffered greatly being a winger to Zibanejad. It always felt like Ryan had to be the playmaker on that line.

If I recall correctly, he was quite productive and looked great on Turris' wing.

This, him and Hoffman where dragging Zibby around for the first half .Ryan and Hoffman were ripping up the league the first 40 or so .Then it would seem they both ran out of gas

Ryan is slow and he isn't a huge scoring threat from a long distance, unlike Hoffman or Turris.
Sure he is ,guy still had 56 points .The 2nd half for him and Hoffman is where the issue lies .Zibby had a decent second half but his wingers..........not so much .He has been the entire issue

I meant to say that he would benefit a lot from having the ability to score from a long distance, unfortunately he only does damage when he's within 25 ft of the net.

Ryan like Stone create scoring opportunities from down low ,or coming in late .Stone being the better playmaker puts more pucks back in front of the net .Whereas Bobby tends to either shoot or skate/dangle the puck into the front net. Both kinda play a power forward style ,but yes you are right about bobby not really being a threat to score from the high slot

Anaheim traded him away just at the right time. His last season there (half-season) is right on par with his career as a Senator.

Meh,a 55 to 70 point winger is still a good player.Ryan could score 70 and it really shouldnt surprise anyone ,His numbers with Turris and the numbers with Zibby are the most telling

I wanted him on the leafs a few years ago. Thank the lord we didn't get him.

Wouldn't want him as one of my go to forwards

70 points? Ryan himself would be surprised.

Ottawa traded for a 20 goals scorer when they thought they were getting a 30 goals scorer.

He was injuried for his first season with us ,the first 35 games he was close to a ppg with 18 goals and 33 points .Hoffman had 21.Zibby well... he had 8 if you take away his ENG.Ryan has been in the high 50 to mid 60 point range, his entire time here .Him with a better playmaking center, like the two we now have in Brassard and Turris ,could have him scoring 70 .But the safer bet is around 55 to 65 ,which is first line numbers nowdays

The only thing that "happened" to Bobby Ryan, was that he stopped playing on the same team as Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry......the REAL stars.

Ryan is simply an okay player. He's not that talented and not that intense, and not that fast, and not that fit, and not that special.

He was lucky early in his career to ride on the coat-tails of those other two.
