What grip do nhl players/pro players add on to their non grip sticks?
I add tape something similar like Phil Kessel http://escouthockey.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/Phil-Kessel-pics-Gallery-pic-3.jpg but I think that I have seen that some players add some glue/spray on the stick to prevent your hands to slide too much?

I have tried the grip stick but I dont like it, I feel that my hands meet to much resistance when I move my hand up and down when controlling the puck.

If I dont add tape as grip on the none grip stick I have no controll when shooting becuase my right hand (im a right shooter) just slides uncontrollable down the stick.

What do you guys prefer? and what do nhl players/pro players prefer?

Because of the tape grip I use my right glove is taking a hard beating and the palm doesnt last very long, so is it some other method to use to prevent my hand to slide too much when controlling the puck?

Thanks!

You may have noticed when watching a pro game there are short sticks on the bench that have tape wrapped around them. The tape is wrapped on sticky side out. You can rub it along the shaft of the stick to give it a little bit of tack. It is a nice in between of a gloss and grip stick. They are easy to make, just need a bit of wood and a roll of tape. I do one layer sticky side in, then turn the tape over and roll it sticky side out. You can apply as much or as little grip to your stick as you want.

Yep, that's the most common thing. I found it gets sticky very fast, but if you just hit the corners lightly, it's not so bad, and then remove enough so your hand can slide up and down. Very trial and error though.

Another thing that can help is trying a few different spray paints...glossy spray paint actually seems to be semi-grippy for me. Not as good as a quality grip stick though.

Another thing you can try is "Plasti Dip" in a spray can. It's a clear rubbery spray that adds some grip. It will last a few skates then start to wear off, but it's less than 10 bucks at a hardware store and you can rub it off if you don't like it. At least an alternative until you can get a new stick.

I would encourage anyone who doesn't like grip to give it a good try if they haven't. And by try I mean using it for a week or two at least in practice. Three years ago I bought a Reebok 8K shaft with the Griptonite grip which is VERY tacky at first. I HATED it when I first got it and left it on the stick rack in favor of my other stick. That other stick broke and I was forced to use my 8K. After using it for a couple weeks I LOVED it and now I wouldn't think of using a non-grip stick. You do get used to it and after not too long you don't even notice that it's particularly grippy.

Give it a shot.

Another question: How do you you remove the grip on a gripped stick? Or lessen it at least?

When I played I saw a lot of guys throw baby powder to lessen the grip. Throw some on there and then just grip the stick and slide it up and down to spread it out. Some guys would do it just before the start of warm-up and others after every period. Hope that helps.

Thanks. Thats kinda the idea I had. Might work to tame the grip initially until the sweat builds up on my palms. Lol
