Drury, arguably the most clutch goal scorer on Team USA, got almost no ice time in the 3rd period. In the last minute scramble, Laviolette put Rolston out as the extra attacker, perhaps to continue to fire shots wide and choke on easy opportunities.

Why isn't Drury out there when the game is on the line?

Oh, and yes, I'm a biased Sabres fan blah blah blah. I admit it.

Can you actually argue against Drury getting more icetime?

I don't think Mrk Parrish even played a minute this game so could be worse.

That being said, i would have used Drury on alot of key faceoffs.

Oh, I didn't know it was Laviolette behind the bench. I thought that was Lamoriello. Having Lou back there was the only way I could explain how Gomez, Gionta, and Rafalski got so much ice time. ;)

You know, considering Drury is leading the tournament in faceoff win percentage, I'd think it'd be smart to have him out there to win those key faceoffs at the end.

Plus, Chris Drury is clutch. And clutch is everything in life.

OK, you've named one forward out of 4. What other 3 forwards would you rather have out at the end than Drury?

Modano, Cole, Tkachuk, and Rolston.

Modano, Cole, and Rolston for how they've played in this tournament. Tkachuk gets the nod because he's usually money on the garbage goals and that's usually how extra attacker goals are scored.

I have nothing against Drury, and would have probably not minded to see him out there instead of Rolston as the extra attacker, but Rolston has a better shot from the point IMO. That's probably what got him the nod over Drury.

I would have, however, liked to see Drury out there on the offensive zone faceoffs in the 5 on 3. With as good as he has been on draws in this tournament, one of those faceoffs could mean the differance between scoring and not.

The whole line of Cole-Gomez-Gionta.

Rolston, Tkachuk, maybe even Weight.

there, plus Modano thats 6 or 7...

I agree that Drury should be getting more ice time. However I know Gionta, Gomez and Cole arent scoring but i'd rather have those three.

Why? So they can look pretty flying all around the ice and firing shots wide?

Drury is clutch and has been clutch in international play before. He has similar stats to those players playing on a third line in Buffalo for most of the year where those players have been playing on the top line for their team. Drury has almost a point a game since Connolly and Briere dropped from the team forcing him to be a number one center.

Experience + Talent should beat Youthful Flash + Talent anytime.

What ever anyone says, Laviolate is a moron. Those 2 5v3 power plays were pathetic. On the 2nd 5v3 it seemed like Schineder and Modano played the point all 2minutes. *** is that about! Gomez is on the ice for most of each power play, and they wonder why the PP stuggles???

this team is a joke. I can't wait til this tournament is over and our players go back home. With each game, we embaress ourselfs even more.

well im not sure drury is the answear for goal scoring. however this team needs to play tighter in both zones. If any mistake was made it was with goal tending.

Drury is clutch. He was clutch in Colorado, he's clutch in Buffalo, he was clutch at BU, hell, he was clutch in the Little League World Series.

He needs to be utilized by the US team.

What are you taking about? Rafalski hardly was out there today, even JD mentioned that and as far as Gomez and Gionta while it's true they didn't play their best game today, what really concerns me is that Laviolette should have taken Tkachuk of their line last game and put either Rolston or better yet Cole on it, Tkachuk has been nothing but dead weight on that line.

Speaking of dead Weight, Doug is getting way too much icetime too.

A moron who will probably have a Jack Adams at season's end. I don't care what you say, you can't blame him entirelly for the lack of production by the players. Especially on the powerplay. He has these players for just a couple of weeks, and he's supposed to be able to assess talent and create the perfect system for these players to play in? Hardly. These players know what a powerplay looks like. They know what they're supposed to be doing out there, because they're not doing anything differant than what they're doing for their team in the NHL. If they're not putting the puck in the net, the buck has to stop somewhere.

I'm not saying Laviolette is perfect and is blameless, but to call him a moron is entirelly too harsh. He was named coach of this team for a reason, and it was before he took this Hurricanes team to the best record in the league.

Weight has been a joke this olympics. An absolute joke. I'm scratching my head more and more why we traded for him with what he contributes.

He isn't a moron, that was a bit much.

However, when your team struggles mightily to get any serious offense and you refuse to change anything, questions need to be asked. The PP needs to be changed and different players need to get more ice time than Gionta, Gomez, and Cole.

Not like he cost you anything...you basically got him for a 4th line goon and a low pick.

You gave up a lot for him too. It's probably not a good sign that Laviolette isn't really giving him that much ice time on this team when they obviously need scoring help.

forwards Jesse Boulerice, Mike Zigomanis and the rights to unsigned draft pick Magnus Kahnberg.

The Blues also got first- and fourth-round draft picks in 2006 and another fourth-rounder in 2007.

That's an awful lot for a player that has explicitly said he won't be resigning with Carolina in the offseason.

I know this might be a biased statement me being a Devils fan but the one player that was left off that has me scratching my head is Jamie Langenbrunner who has has been playing great this year, I doubt he would have made that much of a difference in our offense being anemic, but I'm confident he would have given us a better contribution than Guerin who has been outright awful so far and should have been left off the team.

Hell, I would have liked to have seen Matt Cullen on the team ahead of Doug Weight with the way he has been playing this year. Cullen is at least a spark on offense and has shown more finish this year than in years past. Langenbrunner wouldn't have made a bad selection either, but SOMEBODY has to put it in the net.

Unsolicited advice: no need to defend the obvious.

When someone comes up with insight like "Laviolette is a moron," I'm reminded of the line from the old Elvis Costello song: "I used to be disgusted, now I try to be amused."

Absolutely hilarious. :biglaugh:
