What do you think Wayne Gretzky thinks of Connor McDavid?

In the past, Wayne Gretzky called Niklas Sundstrom "the smartest player in the league" and called Ales Hemsky "the best passer I have ever seen".

So what do you think he feels about Connor McDavid?

Wayne Gretzky told the Edmonton Journal that he considers Connor McDavid “as good as I’ve seen in the last 30 years, the best player to come into the league in the last 30 years.” Duly noted and counted. Mario Lemieux came into the league 30 years and seven months ago. Still it’s a great big statement by the Great One.

Look, listen, we've always have some great players, be it Maurice Richard, Bobby Hull, Gordie, Messier, Lowe, Mario, Bossy, Jagr...The game evolves and there's always a next generation of great players that keeps our great game going and interesting. Connor is a great player with tremendous talent, as good as anyone we've seen and he will have a go at my records. As Wally used to say, the game is in good hands.

Probably something along those lines.

Wayne showed the hockey world last year he's kinda jealous ... he chose Calgary in that series. Coming from Wayne.. that was just wrong.
Did you not see him looking despondent after the games against the Avs in the playoffs? They were all joking that everyome was havimg a good time except him.

Probably being very quiet and humble to himself noticing the incredible stamina of current day players, including McDavid. Also admiring McDavid's skating ability, silky smooth and quick. Something Gretzky never was known for.

People forget in Gretzky's era he was constantly double shifted, but shifts were not as fast paced and quick. It's such a different game now. We used to remark about his stamina.

Nobody wants to see Wayne Gretzky's records broken more than Wayne Gretzky. He is on the Ovi train for sure.

Mario Lemieux came into the league on October 11, 1984. About 38.5 years ago. You’re off by about 8 years.

As much as I like your number more given my age, it is unfortunately not correct.

Wayne and Bobby together publicly called Mario the games best individual physical talent ever to lace skates...he hasn't changed that although he is high on McDavid. He is on Crosby too calling him a top 5 of all time.

honest question..why did you include Lowe with those players?

Wayne has aged significantly of late -- something painfully obvious when he ditches the bad dye jobs we've seen on TV. However, his mind is as sharp as a razor. I made the trek to his village recently to ask him about this matter. He was very thoughtful.

"You can discover more about a person in an hour of play than in a year of conversation."

Although I should note that that quote is attributed to Plato not Wayne. Something he neglected to mention. I'm also not clear on what that means re Connor McDavid.

Frankly, he's getting a bit full of himself these days if I'm honest.
