The 2024 draft is about 6 hours away and the Maple Leafs have not addressed the D or the goaltending, will they be able to do something? Teams around them have improved, the Leafs need to do something.

How about one Jeff Skinner at 50% retention? We will take back Tavares or someone else expensive so you get some cap this year for D/G and some goals back. You can have assets depending on who is included. I will likely see myself out now.

Treliving will get very close but ultimately the process will fail for Tanev and Montour.

6x5M for Zadorov.

Throwing draft picks away is not smart right now. They pick at 23rd and hope someone drops so they get a steal. They throw money at free agents anyway.

Something tells me this may not happen.

Run it back with the same, lose in the 1st round again, say "we're going to make big changes" and then just re-sign all of your players.

Repeat the same process every year.

You do realize who the gm was for most of this was right?

Unless a trade is about to happen we don't know about, the plan appears to be to target Roy and Tanev in free agency and hope the number is low enough to bring back the cheaper option between Domi and Bertuzzi. Then, get a cheap tandem goalie and maybe a league min vet forward and see what the kids can do upfront.

Defense would look something like

Rielly - Tanev
McCabe - Roy
Benoit - Liljegren

That's the best top 4 I can remember the Leafs having. Not top of the league but easily in the top 10 discussion. The forwards will look a bit uglier

Knies - Matthews - Domi
McMann - Tavares - Nylander
Robertson/Cowan/whoever from the several NHL ready forward prospects) - Holmberg - Marner
XXX - Dewar - Reaves

It's going to depend on a few prospects taking that next step and at least one of our top F prospects to show they are NHL ready on the third line

Slow your roll Henny Penny.

Convince Marner to waive and trade his ass.
Horrible idea then who feeds mathews?

you get rid of Tavares at the end of the year, continue to draft so you have cheap young players for depth and then you patch next year.

Trading a 90+ point winger with selke level defense is a horrible idea.

The play offs was not Marners fault, and leaf fans constantly blaming him is becoming annoying to hear.

Hockey is a team sport and the leafs lost because they have a poorly constructed roster, which can be fixed once you unload Tavares.

Stop whining and blaming Marner when he's been nothing but amazing for you guys,

Stay the course, hope for the best this year, then use the money freed up from Tavares contract ending to do something in 25-26. I mean, what choices do they really have? They were screwed once Dubas decided to hand out huge contracts to players who hadn't won anything yet.

No, it’s annoying to hear how good he is when he is not all that. He is not worth 12M per year extension. 8 years of the same thing, they need to move on. He is soft, gutless, and takes 0 accountability for anything.
