What are your thoughts on the Rantanen trade?

Would you have traded Mikko Rantanen?

Just like CMac said they would not be able to compete 4 rounds in playoffs only with one line and lack of depth players. Now we got 3C in Drury and will have a few more bullets to acquire a few more depth players. Let Carolina sign Rants for 14M or maybe some other team like the Rangers can get who ever they want and sign Rants for 15 or 16M.

Letting him go for nothing would’ve been a disaster.

Saying he should’ve been dealt in the summer is fair to an extent, but I expect they were trying quite vigorously to fit him into their contract plans for the next few years.

This move, at this time, was—in my opinion—almost a miracle. Depth, cap space, picks, and Marty Necas, who is a better skater and a proven scorer.

On paper, they’re worse at this moment. There’s no replacing Mikko’s goals. But this season was already melting into a shitshow. The power play was dead. The chemistry between 29 and 96 was not game breaking like it was. As many said—it was stale. I would shake things up too.

No idea what it means for this season in particular. Not looking good after today. Time to adjust and more moves are needed

Mikko will propably do Laine and go on to score on pure anger with his new team.

Thats not saying Avs shouldnt have him traded on the long run. I just feel it his going to do it.

Why make it now not before the game? The answers will be more negative now after such a ***** game

It should have never gotten this far with Rantanen. Either trade him in the summer or make a new contract. That's my opinion, so we did the best in this situation and traded him.

I would have been ok with giving Mikko 12-13 mill. The cap is gonna go up to 100 mill in couple of years. 14 mill may have been too much, but I have a feeling Mikko is gonna sign for less than 14 wherever he signs

What are thease sh**** options?🤣

"Priced himself out"?

What was the price? Nobody knows.

Kypreos is the only one who has reported any real numbers and that was 11.25mil/8years.
If that was Avs last offer than f*** Cmack, he dropped the ball.

Mixed feelings about this one.

It was the right move to trade Rants assuming he was dead set on the rumored $14m.

Can’t really comment on whether I’d trade him for a different package or not though since no one knows what else was on the table.

However, I do believe that difference between Necas signed for only 1 more year and Rantanen is greater than Drury, a 2nd and 4th so in that sense I think the return is underwhelming

I keep going back and forth on this and realize it’s a good get considering the salary cap and who we got.

At the end of the day, it still feels like shit. FU Gary Bettman.

14M is the price, it has been widely reported.

LeBrun just wrote that it wasn't the number on Rantanen's part and he would've signed for less to stay in Denver.

Avs offer 11.25mil/8 is only "hard" number reported by Kypreos.

Too soon to tell. My initial reaction is despair. He was with the club for so long, and such an important linchpin to this franchise. 9269 was the best line in the NHL for a good while.

Teams trading the best piece of a deal, don't normally win those trades, but we also were on the verge of becoming too top heavy. Having MacK at 12+, Mikko at 14+ and Makar for 15+ probably wasn't going to give us any sort of window. Then you also factor in we traded for younger guys, this could in the long run, extend the window.

Cmac has already stated he wasn't done, and even got draft picks back on this trade. The tree isn't complete. So I'm going to state it again. Too soon to tell.

CMac did what he had to. Return was fine. Rantanen wanted more than we could feasibly pay and still ice a decent product. No ill will towards rants. I hope he gets his bag. He's a great dude. We just can't afford three 12.5+ contracts when Makar needs to be reupped. You choose Makar and Mackinnon over Rants + one of them every single day of the week.

”My understanding is that Rantanen was willing to take less than what a July 1 market number looked like to stay in Colorado, but even so, his number was not in the same realm as where the Avs were.

Meaning, I don’t think Rantanen was stuck at $14 million a year. He would have taken less to stay in Denver. But I would imagine even being around the $12.6 million MacKinnon average annual value was seen as too much by the Avs.”

Mikko might have stayed with 12,6 mill I guess.

I think that Rants chose the money over the team. People are acting like CMac was asking him to take a pay cut from what he's making right now. No, he was still going to get a big raise, but they also wanted to be able to fill some holes and keep some other guys later.

We've gone through how many playoff series just relying on MacK, Rants, Landy, and Cale to get us through. The one year we actually won, we had more than just those guys contributing. I understand what CMac is trying to do. You need contributions from everyone, not just 4 guys.

The fact that the Avs traded him means Rantanen priced himself out. His demands may have been very reasonable for the market. But for the Avs he was priced out? That's the only way we can answer the poll question.

For the Avs current front office it's a fact and they will regret it. But the Question is "Would you have traded Mikko Rantanen?".
How can anyone answer "He priced himself out" not knowing what was Rantanen's number?
