Western NHL Fans No Longer Out In The Cold When It Comes To National TV Coverage

I am knowledgeably and sincerely glad that the Los Angeles Kings organization's efforts to undo the damage of "out of sight, out of mind" is being paid off generously, to the point the team is now getting more airtime on NBC, while getting a new local radio contract with KABC.

I commend the Los Angeles Kings on their efforts, and keep up the good work!

Also, I nearly forgot to ask this, but who are the opponents the LA Kings face on their 13 games on the NBC family of networks?

why so many sharks games?

how about a little variety like chi, Toronto, Montreal, blues and rangers etc? so many more interesting matchups.

Well, since Comcast has the Sharks and Northern California, it's using the trite "BEAT L.A.!" card to pump in money for the Sharks. Never mind the fact even before Gretzky and after the Seals left, the LA Kings was the sole California NHL team.

True, I actually thought the schedule will be:

6 vs Original Six teams
3 vs Sharks
2 vs Ducks
1 vs Penguins
1 vs Flyers

My guess is flex games.
If they decide to go with a different matchup they can show the "West coast" game on another channel

I'll do one better I remember when the games were shown after the late local news on KHJ-TV and KTLA before that.

10:00 pm... I remember those :)
And there were only like 10-15 of those...
when they would play a Saturday matinee in Boston those sometimes would be shown live at 10: AM
It was cool when ON-TV started carrying the Kings... home games on TV #Novelty

ON TV
I remember my dad told me it was for hockey and movies, but I thought he got it for the awesome exercise videos

NBC really likes the Kings/Sharks matchup.

That's because they're gonna just use the CSN - Bay Area feed. *sigh* If the Sharks get out that tv contract, I'll be the happiest one! It's one thing to deal with the Sharks broadcast during the regular season. It's a whole other when it's an entire playoff series! :help:

The Sharks broadcasters can't hold back their rooting interest for the Sharks, and they shouldn't have to! It shouldn't be on national tv!

I watched several of the SJ/LA games when CSN Bay Area was broadcasting them. Randy Hahn and Drew Remenda were no more pro-Sharks than Bob and Jim were pro-Kings.

Quite frankly, fans love their own team's announcers so much, every other announcer is biased. In fact, just about every time neutral announcers call a Kings game on a broadcast, I see pretty much the same amount of fans accusing them of bias towards either team. That's pretty good evidence that they're calling the game down the middle.

Happens just about every time.

There are also games against the Ducks, Hawks, Avs, and Rangers. Plus a game against the Sabres.

Why so many Sharks games? Other than Comcast probably using the Comcast announcers for the Sharks in those games, because Comcast apparently doesn't have any money to spend for an actual national broadcast crew for late games, it's because the Kings and Sharks are one of the better matchups in the NHL today. The hockey that gets played is usually some of the best in any game during the year, and neither team likes the other. If the Sharks have any fight left in them, the games next year should be pretty good, especially the home opener. Still funny that the NHL did that.

Was ONTV like the Z channel? I remember having the Z channel growing up and they showed bad movies and hockey. Then it turned into the Sports Channel.

Same thing. Also selcTV. It was basically a scrambled UHF channel. Cable and aftermarket descramblers caused the doom of these.

That's true and I personally never had a problem with the Sharks guys. But you can't deny that some announcers are worse than others. I'd consider Jim Fox to be an uber homer. I think he is shades away from Brian Hayward though. And those guys in Colorado have to be some of the worst announcers in sports. They might as well mic up a fan in the stands. So while I agree that there are plenty of people here who complain unless is is Bob & Jim and seem to overlook how much of a homer Jim Fox is, there are guys out there that are way worse than others.

The Dallas Combo should be doing National Broadcasts, those guys are golden. Dallas PBP guys are awesome.

the only ON-TV I ever watched was "On Golden Blonde"

LOL NBC is so cheap. I really wish the NHL waited for Fox Sports 1.

I don't disagree about how they call a game. The problem I have is when they call the game that way on a national vs regional broadcast. A national game should be neutral and when they use one of the teams announcers it isn't.

Yes they do the national games is what got my to cancel gamecenter and go with hockey streams. The year after we won the first cup so many games were going to be blacked out.

I actually just canceled my cable and am trying to find a way to watch Kings games without renewing. I usually get Gamecenter to watch all games (except Kings as they are considered my local team here in San Diego). If I go with Hockey Streams, will I be able to watch all Kings games? Also, do you just watch on your computer, or do you have a way to get it to your TV?

(Sorry for the semi off topic post)
