Tribute Welcome new Leaf goalie Veini Vehvilainen

  • Xenforo Cloud has upgraded us to version 2.3.6. Please report any issues you experience.
I doubt he reads the board.
Some of them do. We and I have evidense of it. History also repeats itself, wich is key sire.

I also remember that some sharks players might have even written here. Years ago. McGinn maybe? Or something else. Can't remember correctly sire.

How can anyone possibly pretend to know how good this kid is.

Save face with russia for future is good enough.

Where else would they read, to get the pulse of what the fans are thinking? The Sun? lol! If they are aware of what the Sun , Star, etc. write about them they certainly are aware of this place.

They have spare time as well, I would bet they take a peek.

24, undersized, bad Liiga stats this year, bad AHL stats last year. I don’t think he’s a notable prospect, we were just doing Lehtonen a solid, trading him to a team where he might get more minutes.
Pro hockey experience.
Backup to hutch if Anderson goes back down, Woll gets to go play hockey.
Also, we turned nothing into this guy, which is better than nothing.

Kid was stellar before coming to NA last year. Not sure I'd write him off due to two partial cocid seasons. Still just in his 23yr old season. I'm excited to see what he can do.

I think Tarasov is the CBJ goalie of the future and I was surprised to hear they had VV ranked ahead of Mattis Kivlenieks. Pretty far down the depth chart but we need an AHL guy who has some upside.

Hutchinson started off this season as #4 on the depth chart and has already played in five games. You just never know sometimes. A pending UFA d-man with nine games of NHL experience also wasn't going to be returning anything surefire in a trade.

He did have some playoff success in Liiga back in his 20 & 21 year old seasons, since then his numbers have been a crapshoot. Optimistically he's 3 years older and better disregarding the recent numbers since.

Who are you?

Were you an elite prospect?

Are you going to be part of a tandem next year with Campbell?

Do you have starter potential?

Does your Karpat experience translate into the NHL?

Not to be that guy, but you did kind of write off Woll and Scott in the other thread.

Vehvilainen shouldn't be written off either, but that does not mean he isn't a major longshot and should not be near the bottom of our top 30 list with the likes of Rubins and Duszak (also 97' guys who could still turn out but likely just end up as solid depth).

I have him 26th behind Joe Miller and ahead of Kristians Rubins right now.

goalies are like voodoo, kid is a former prospect and just 23 years old.

Lottery ticket/better depth than KK in my opinion.

who are you talking to

It's not literally addressed to Vehvilainen. Just a question for other people on this board that have opinions of him, or other knowledge. You can look at hockeydb all day and still not get a sense of a player, and what Dubas possibly sees in them.

good to see Dubas addressing some depth for the org's biggest weakness right now.

Exactly. The bigger picture goalie situation needs to be addressed. Freddy might price himself off the team in the offseason. If Campbell remains but his health is unsteady then TOR is screwed. I don't think Woll or Scott are quite there. Or they may never be there...

Scott has had one impressive year in his career and hasn't played in 2yrs.

Woll had a good not great college career and has been godawful as a pro.

VV has a much more impressive track record than either of them, and his struggles since coming over last year are nowhere near as worrying as the struggles Woll and Scott have faced.

Tarasov appears to be the gem of the CBJ organization and I assumed Kivlenieks would have been ahead of Vehvilainen based on their AHL numbers recently but apparently some CBJ fans had "VV" ranked higher.

I could be wrong, but I don't think Dubas' decision to move Lehtonen was done lightly.

I don't think it was that big a deal in any case. Unfortunately we didn't have much of a window to ascertain if Lehtonen was Kimmo Timonen or pure KHL fodder, but we had a look, it wasn't a fit and move on.

This allows Toronto to approach future European free agents the same way. Zaitsev and Mikheyev are examples where they earned second contracts in the NHL and a lot of them didn't.
