The ball was in his left arm when it got punched out and bobbled. He didn't regain possession in his right arm until he was already out of bounds out of the endzone. It's not that hard of a play or rule to understand.

Apparently its only a fumble if you're crossing the goal line at the time, because McCown clearly bobbled the ball while being sacked on that last drive and it did not go down as a fumble. It's over analyzing via replay to an absurd extent. Not to mention it is not at ALL clear if he managed to "regain possession" before he hit the ground/pylon or not, so the play should have stood as called even if you want to micro-analyze "possession"

I think Detroit needed to go for it there...are there going to be at least 4 more possessions in the last 7 minutes? Not sure they’re going to get the ball twice more.

How exactly is that a fumble if the ball never hits the ground? The ball moves but he never lost control to where it hit the ground or the sideline. To extrapolate from that play that A) he fumbled and B) the ball went out of the endzone when he never lost complete control is the worst single replay reversal I've ever seen.
Did the ball ever reach the goal line or the pylon?

His shoulder hit the pylon, but it's whether the ball did isn't it?

Or does the fact he hit the pylon mean he's out of bounds and contacted the ball. Kind of confusing.

Everyone on NFL Todsy saying it is a TD.

He doesn't lose control, but even if you claim it there is not enough evidence to overturn the call on the field which was a TD.

There are different rules when it comes to the end zone.

The ball doesn't have to touch the ground to be a fumble, the player just has to lose control of it. A common example being a player strips a ball loose and the other team grabs it before it touches the ground.

If any part of a player's body is out of bounds and that player is touching the ball (assuming no other player has possession themselves) then the play is dead and treated the same as if the ball itself went out of bounds.

IMO from the replay it's clear that SJ lost possession/control of the ball. The real debate at hand is whether he reestablished possession before he contacted the pylon--much trickier to conclusively say from the replay.
