Detroit doesn't do that.

They play their base 43 defense at a higher rate than any other team in the league.

Every defense has their base structure and then they make minor tweaks based on what they expect to see from an opponent. But, they rarely change who they fundamentally are week to week. That would not allow players to feel comfortable and play free game to game.

The problem last week was that they did play more man in the second half and Stafford was more efficient against man than he was zone in the game.

The lack of a pass rush from their front four and Stafford just having a perfect game were the two biggest issues.

Last night, Stafford was throwing balls right at 49ers defenders on crossing patterns over the middle. He wasn't missing that badly against the Bills.
Status Quo Nickel alignment against the Lions is a recipe for a loss. They better have a very specific game plan for Detroit unless they want Montgomery and Gibbs to run it down their throats all afternoon long.

FWIW they played 14% 3 LB sets against Detroit last time around, taking off Taron for Dodson. Maybe on some high percentage rushing downs they might go there?
Different RBs for Detroit and all but same coaching staff.

Taking Taron Johnson off the field for Dorian Williams only helps if the Lions OL doesn't eat the Bills DL for lunch all game long.

I am much more concerned about whether the Bills DL shows up or not as opposed to what the coaches try to do schematically.

And if they take TJ off the field, you have to worry about Laporta and St-Brown feasting out of the slot against Milano or Williams.

last week was milano learning to mesh and be dependable as everyone could tell they were all a little lost especially slow Matt w McDaniel o that apparently Detroit runs as well

.for the McD detractors we are scripted to lose in this clown world

is McD fault bass field goal blew left and right w no wind or diggs caught the wrong ball

13 seconds sure but has clown world feel

Cincy Josh informed his chick knows damar death rebirth injuries etc McD again ?

I think Babich and Brady have meshed w Josh and McD covering many deficiencies in D w milano out who shot gaps and covered extremely well if milano doesbt prove on film he won't take snaps from Dorian at key moments same w Hyde Rapp and damar

Fook em all win any way both zapped and abused teams

oh don't like McD goal line call because fake hero douche Brady that believes his own farts look again Josh got in before knee hits but no I guess like various holding illegal picks it WAS A LOSS NO EXCUSES but still truth

we'll see what happens Sunday as D and Josh put up more varied looks up on film to confuse in tournament

3 rd seed may not play Lamar but I could care less this TEAM KNOWS IF ANY PLAYOFF GAME IS CLOSE WE FOOKIN LOSE NOT BECAUSE OF coaching that gut yutes to play well except for 5 offenses they faced undermanned or learning

Buck up we have a better chance than Kelly teams aside from first one

screw nsa cia bellechick and Brady pedo Kraft , we've learned a lot of jazz we'll see what happens in wwe clown show insecure tipped scales w Josh Allen and hopefully a deep healthy D over that last few and at least one at home .

.reid doesn't have beat us, NYC and the zebras . chill we might have the will to do it mcvay was very lucky that twerp had help w his O playing great and good line they still cheated a lot and almost lost

so yes we must be better we must dominate to WIN , but c'mon be kind to this team and coaches f u self aggrandizing Tommy Brady ya sold yr soul tool

The Sabres are starting to feel like this.

"Hey, come to the Sabres game, you might see a Bills player!"

As my Buffalo sports fan diseased brain has percolated for the last 24 hours, I am more convinced the Bills will win Sunday and the f***ing hype train will become unbearable.

Choo choo motherf***ers.

Will have to come out the two high safety look some of the time for additional run support and call more run blitzes on early downs. Got to mix it up of course because Goff is lethal in the play action passing game.

The Bills best defense for this game is long sustained drives that end in TDs.

Agreed. We need to eat clock on offense. Problem is, the Lions will do the same thing with their running game.

Who knows, though? The NFL is weird. Maybe the defense responds extra hungry for being clowned on last week + their coach catching strays for some iffy time management at the end of the game. I'm not expecting it, but Goff does have some shit games, and he's due for one.

maybe he has a shitty game in the SB, when the Bills meet them (one can only dream).

I for the life of me don't understand why the Bills don't have a 1-safety package they can deploy. I get not wanting to take Taron off the field, he's one of their best players. Taking Hamlin (or Rapp) off the field for a 3rd linebacker should be a look they deploy from time to time, though.

Does any team go with 4 DL, 3 LBs, 3 CBs, and 1 S in the NFL?

When Detroit puts a third LB on the field, their slot cornerback Branch moves back to safety. I believe the Ravens do the same with Hamilton though I don’t know how often they’re in 4-3. That’s basically what they’d be asking Johnson to do, and I guess they just dont want him doing so.
