I just watched a video about WADA and their ban of cannabis and in it they said that 50% of NHL players smoke weed to some extent. Haven't found anything to support that claim except a quote from Riley Cote hahah. Now that cannabis is legal in most parts of N-A are there many players that are know to smoke? Sativa Highzerman of course but anyone else?

I know one guy.

Weed is legal in Canada and in some parts of the US. There's definitely a bunch of NHLers who smoke or take edibles to some degree, just like if you take any group of 18-35 year olds and you will find that a good portion of them do it.

I don't think that's anything surprising, but then again I'm from Canada and smoking weed is very normal or common here. Many athletes prefer smoking weed or taking edibles over drinking since it doesn't ruin the following day and as an athlete drinking is extremely counterproductive and can ruin your training. Weed is just a different way to get that buzz without ruining your next day.

I'm sure many of them take derivatives as well like CBD products.

It's not something these players will broadcast though, I'm not sure why they would that's not really a topic they would discuss. The NHL being the old man's club that it is...

I'd say the 50% number is quite accurate from what I've seen. Recreationally of course. I doubt more than a handful if any are chronic daily smokers

Man, weed ruins my next day. ESPECIALLY edibles. So much less energy. Maybe i just consume too late haha. Maybe im different though...i just cant imagine being at peak performance during a stoneover. Im sure players wouldnt be consuming if it affected them the same way.

It can't be as bad as a hangover.

You're like me. Weed really f***s me up during and the day after, no matter how little I consume. I've got some friends who can't live without it.

Based on my non scientific observations, the more you're hyperactive or have some sort of ADHD, the less negative effects weed gives you, almost like ritalin effects sets of people very differently

Definitely, I even know a specific player that had a prolonged absence due to weed consumption \ depression \ anxiety combo.

I wouldn't be surprised if more than a few NHLers use gummies to help them sleep, especially on road trips. I know they work wonders for me when I have a hard time getting to sleep.

During the bubble in Edmonton there was an article about how many players brought edibles to help them sleep

Maybe a vape would be a whole lot better? I've been meaning to get one for a long time.

Which is completely mind boggling in this day and age when given these athletes have access to the best health and nutrition experts yet still don't know how poor cannabis is for effective sleep and that there's actually far more effective supplements easily available.

Exactly this. I gave up drinking a couple of years ago and I don’t care if I ever saw another drop the rest of my life. Myself and almost everybody I know carry the super convenient vape pens with the interchangeable cartridges. You go to any kind of social event and EVERYBODY has one in their pocket. Great buzz with zero hangover and zero empty calories (aside from the snacking lol. Still miles better than drinking AND snacking).

A good portion of the US has come to their senses and legalized it but they should get with the times and just legalize it at the federal level. It’s out there anyway so may as well make it easy for people and make some extra tax money at the same time. Not to mention how many people have to live with criminal records because they got caught with a bit of dope in their pocket one time.

WRONG. From first hand experience. 5 mg thc gummies have helped me get a solid night's sleep more than any prescription aid, melatonin or any other sleep aid recommended by doctors and others. Believe me, I've tried everything. Including even visiting a sleep clinic.

It's certainly a gateway to future misery and uselessness.

Completely disagree.

misery.... are you for real?

if it helps people reduce their stress, how is that a bad thing? we live in an age where we have to deal with more instability (relationships, work, money) and anxiety in our lives. Marijuana is as harmless as it gets to help with all that if thats what you fancy.

Do you not drink once in a while? guess what? MUCH more harmful.

Wada will have to change their rules at some points as more jurisdiction make consuming cannabis products legal. I am sure most players that consume are not smoking it but instead using oils or edibles given they don't hurt the lungs like smoking does.
