Gary Galley -- as much as he is light years ahead better than Healy + Simpson, lately he's really been getting on my nerves:
- Acc. to him, Galchenyuk's goal shouldn't have counted even though Gustaffsson was looking for the shortside save and Chucky's position didn't impede his movement at all. He did try to get over at all, it was too quick. No to mention how emphatically he goes on about how hard Gustaffson was "bumped" and how Chucky was only slightly guided in by Kindle. Then harps on about the disallowed goal for Ottawa.
- Not just Galley (CBC in general) continually cease to recognize Galchenyuk as American. He's Russian. Russian name. He's Russian. This is like the 3rd-4th time I've heard them say this and they cover the Habs a lot.
- Again re: Chucky, apparently while being thrown into the boards by (I think) Quincey, throws an elbow...
- Questioning Gionta's possession of the puck crossing the line for way too long after it happened.
- Railing on White for his penalty over and over, even after it happened, calling it all sorts of versions of "errant reckless use of his stick", when whoever he was covering got under his stick and lifted it right into his own ear. I counted about 4 times that he started going on about it, when he was wrong about it in the first place.
Anyway, CBC...what else is new.
But oh hey, about that game, terrible to see us blow leads (and play like we shouldn't have a lead in the first place, due to D). Great to see us come back like that.
Strong game by the Bourque-Eller-Gio line. DD line was solid too, magic every time. Really hope Patches notches that 40th. Price was fantastic again. Tinordi still has positioning and decision-making issues. PK is still not "back" (though I find it ridiculous that people would consider trading him). Markov-Emelin were terrific. (I don't know how they don't make any comment THERE about Russians when the three players being described are Datsyuk, Emelin and Markov...you'd think maybe some mention of them being Olympic teammates). Briere doing his job when rotated in with Eller's line. White, IMO, another solid performance. Bourni, continues to impress and will for many years to come.
Biggest disappointment: Chucky-Pleks-Gally. I expect them to do so much better. Way too much potential there and I thought there would be chemistry for sure, but way too many pucks in the skates and poor anticipation. Obviously no physical play there when Gallagher is your toughest player. Will be interesting to see what happens it/when we get Prust and Moen back without having played in so long.
Dude. Gally is American. Born in Wisconsin iirc
That's one ****up the CBC didn't so
Russian-American. Dad played for Soviets. He probably knows the language to some extent.

Well, actually, he's Belarussian, so we're all a bit incorrect calling him a Russian. He lived most of his life in Russia. Could barely speak english when he came to Sarnia.
Good for him to embrace America, but the guy is VERY Russian.
Russian-American. Dad played for Soviets. He probably knows the language to some extent. But not Russian.
Dude has major accent. Very russian for an american. Just because you are born somewhere it doesn't mean that is how you identify yourself. Oliver Platt and Shania Twain were both born in Windsor On(Across from Detroit), but neither spent their informative years here.

I believe his father is Belarusian. We finally have the size, skill, and strength of AK46 but with that American work ethic and character![]()
galchenyuk considers himself to be american...and plays for america.
And was born in Wisconsin FFS. I guess Gretzky is Ukrainian?
To the game, happy we won, but we need to tighten up on D. But looking at our depth, once we have all our guys back we're looking pretty solid.

He'll never be as string as ak. Guy could put anybody on their ass...

I admit my use of the word "Russian" can lead to the interpretation I'm downplaying his Russian heritage, but my intent was merely to point out that he people cannot carelessly call him "Russian" as if he's a native of Russia who was born and raised there all of his life, which is typically what most of the audience will assume if the commentator does not go into any further details of his upbringing, in which he lived in the U.S, Italy, Germany, and Russia during his younger years and knows Italian in addition to English and Russian. In addition, there is a another nuance in that his father is Belorussian; while Belorussians might be similar to Russians, there probably exists some differences between the two countries to distinguish them.Dude has major accent. CBC Coverage is horrid.
From beginning to end. Beginning with their Panel. Eck. PJ Stock Centered panel... ew. Ron McLean went from being a Canadian male icon to an old woman. I cringe at how he quotes music verses literally to start every game, and most of the time you can tell he's only been told that the song is popular..... and his/CBC in general's attitude of self-righteousness, and their role to defend political correctness and politically accepted points of view.
The play by play and colour coverage sucks... mostly... they have some good PbP guys.. but their top guys bug me.. I can't even stand Jim Hughson anymore, he's so full of himself... he's not as into the game as he is into the sound of his own voice... it's slightly unnatural... because he's not reacting to the game as much as he is thinking about how he should react. And colour coverage is biased very much, and a lot awkward, especially when Healy is involved and he'll say something aggressive and get left hanging there by the play-by-play and other colour coverage guy.
Not everything is bad... Andi P.... Kevin Weekes... Don Cherry sometimes (not a lot lately though)... Khellhy Hrhrudhy... Elliot.. some of the new reporters....
Enough Cassie Pascal-Campbell-Pascal though....
A lot of those puns are scripted. Can't remember who the player was but he read a pun from the teleprompter back in the 90s to end a segment.I too used to really like Ron Mclean growing up. I thought he was very knowledgeable about the game and his demeanour was excellent (the former is still true). Over the years, as HNIC's quality has gone down the toilet, he's become one of them, or perhaps always was. Let's his biases creep in, does less and less to reign Cherry (at least on facts) and I still can't get over that "puppies" pun re: Andi P. Wtf....
I do still think he's incredibly quick on his feet in terms of puns and wordplay. They do still give me a chuckle. Sometimes they're a little TOO quick, I wonder if he knew exactly what Cherry was going to say, so that he could end CC with a clever turn of phrase.
Friedman, Hrudey, Maclean, Cole, Weekes... should all be retained by Sportsnet (though Cole is probably going to retire anyway) and the rest are expendable. Chris Cuthbert would be nice to have back. Hughson can go and do the Vancouver games he loves so much...Weekes, Friedman, even Hrudey to some extent...pure class. Even if I don't like what they have to say (if the Habs are sucking...they're sucking), they are extremely good with the way they come across with their points and they never have an agenda except providing up to date, accurate facts and insightful analysis (so, there Hrudey can slip a bit, but I still like him).
How do you guys think this show is going to be once "the face of HNIC" is a huge Habs fan? (Strombo)
Of course, everyone else seems to hate this and I cannot conjure up the image of HNIC, but I'm sure as hell glad they've realized (that being Rogers) what a pile of crap this once proud Canadian institution has become. Still curious why they're making the change in light of the fact that it makes so much revenue from the Leaf fans (or...does it really? I guess we have the second part of the controlled experiment on its way). I'm 100% sure Strombo will be of the ilk of Friedman in terms of silencing his bias (ftm, I actually have no idea if Friedman has a particular fondness for any team, he's that professional).
Is PJ's only job going to be on AC? That would be hilarious. He'll probably get picked up by another one of those leaf-gasm shows on Sportsnet.
