Buffalo Bills WCW: (7) Denver at (2) Buffalo; Sunday 1/12, 1:00 PM, CBS

Is Benford our best defensive player? Certainly seems that way to me. Anyone want to attemtp our top-5 players on offense and defense?
Offense: Allen, Shakir, Cooper, Cook, Kincaid. Defense: Milano, Benford, Bernard, Johnson,Groot.
Feel like D it gets more complicated Oliver when he's on Douglas etc

The O Line has been too good for none of them to be in the top 5 best offensive players for the Bills.

I'd put Dawkins #2, TBH.

Why not both? :p
Roger.

Top 5, in order......based on talent and nothing but:
Offense: Allen, Cooper, Dawkins, Kincaid, Brown (HM: Torrence)
Defense: Miller, Oliver, Groot, Johnson, Benford/Douglas (HM: Bishop)

Top 5, in order.....based on importance to the team:
Offense: Allen, Dawkins, Shakir, Brown, McGovern
Defense: Johnson, Milano, Douglas/Benford, Oliver, Bernard

I'm kind of treating Benford/Douglas as one......as I see them as extraordinarily similar in both talent and importance to the team. Although, I feel like we can lose ONE of Douglas OR Benford and be OK overall.

I think we tried this a year or two ago. It's a fun exercise to discuss if nothing else. I tend to rank my top-5 by their current value to winning each game they play in. So for right now, the top-5 are:

1. Allen
75 yards of dirt
2. Bernard
3. Douglas
4. Dawkins
5. Benford

Shakir, McGovern, Oliver, and Rousseau deserve honorable mentions.

EDIT: Milano is not making any list for me until I see him in game action again. I thought he looked like he still was a step behind in training camp before he got injured. Maybe the added time to rest will be good for his leg.

Yeh I was more focusing on players that get the ball in their hands. I would put Dawkins somewhere in there as well if I was choosing O-line

If I had to choose one- pure talent.

Fun question. I think core-quality players in order are:

Offense: Allen, Shakir, Dawkins, Brown, Cook, Kincaid, with Torrence/Coleman/Davis all having big ootential

Defense: Groot, Oliver, Benford, Douglas, Milano, Johnson, Bernard

I think it's interesting to do a cross walk of what the most important positions are against who is in that position:

QB: Allen ✅
LT: Dawkins ✅
RT: Brown ✅
WR: Coleman, Shakir, Cooper
C: McGovern ✅

Edge or interior rusher: Rousseau, Miller, Epenesa, Oliver ✅
Cornerback: Douglas, Benford, Johnson, Elam ✅

Torrence, Kincaid, Cook, Knox, Davis, Milano, Bernard, etc are all good players but not at the most essential positions.

I definitely agree with the general idea that the positions you mentioned are more important than others, but Bernard is just such a huge difference-maker for us that he almost transcends the position. He's the playcaller out there and the drop-off from him to the backups is a chasm.

I totally agree and tried to factor it in. I put Shakir so high because I think he is the best slot receiver in the league. Just edged out Dawkins/Brown as while they aren’t the class of their positions, they are still near the top and have more valuable positions.

Fun exercise for sure

Offense- Allen, Cook, Shakir, probably two O-line members

Defense-Benford, Milano, Taron, Bernard, Douglas.

I don't want to hear anything about the D-line. Bunch of trash run defenders that get bullied all game at the line. Oliver is massively overrated. Rousseau only shows up every third game against a bad team.

They get run on because they're in nickel 95% of the time and have undersized linebackers...
