We can't defend and don't know how to play with the lead
Yep, and it's a consequence of this:

We lose our puck battles.

Vegas can sense this. Which allows them to play hyper aggressive PK.

They know they'll win the 1 on 1 battle, and take possession.

So Vancouver has to review their fundamentals.

Either learn to win the 1 on 1s individually, or win thru a better system that overloads every 1 on 1 with numbers advantage.

But overloading is a by-product of depth.

If your depth guys are just better than the opposition's, it's easier to win the 1 on 1s.

Win the 1 on 1, and take possession.

So our issue has to be solved with a combo of these:

Better depth, better fundamentals-training, or better system.

The terrible lack of speed in the bottom six, other than Motte, is on full display. Beagle and Sutter just cannot keep up. Sutter is done as an NHLer.

People saying Vegas moves the puck fast, but our bottom six skates in mud. I think Vegas hardly taking any hits on our forecheck and being able to move the puck out with ease has a lot to do with the speed of our bottom six. Vegas's defense hasn't even taken anything close to the abuse our defense has.

Super frustrated with Virtanen. It’s time to trade him I think, either for picks or a package for a defenseman. And just scratch Sutter for a league min. player who actually has heart.

Not sure I'd put him so high. He got 3 assists but that was a pretty poor performance especially on the PP when he kept bobbling and throwing passes to no one.

The way to beat Vegas is quick puck movement. And to move the puck quickly you need options and players to get open for the pass ahead of time. You have to be at your spot the second your teammate gets the puck, otherwise it’s too late.

short shifts, quick passes, keep skating.

Vegas is not that good individually, they play a good team game with complete buy in. We can beat them.

Just win game 5.

The only time Markstrom has faced less than 30 shots throughout the entirety of the playoffs were games 3 (27) and 4 (29) against Minnesota, which were back to back. That is a tired, tired goalie playing every other day and back to backs.

The better team won and is leading the series. Super impressed with VGK sticks all series long. So good at anticipating and sealing off passing lanes. Their ability to do this compounds our troubles efficiently getting the puck out the zone. Plus, taking away QH's skating room and stick removes the one ace-in-the-hole release valve we had on the blue line to spell our guys off. Until we learn how to deal with offensive pressure in our own end (a systems problem, IMO), this will likely be as far as we can take it this year.

While I haven't given up entirely, it's tough to see how we can win this series. Really impressed with our young core of EP, QH and BH all playoffs long. Something to build off of going forwards and will be interesting to see how they do that.

Agreed, faster transitions are what we need and some good ol’ back-checking.

Yes the Canucks need to make some obvious changes, but....

I hope the Canucks do not quit. It has been a good ride. Its been a good summer (excluding the pandemic) and we all would love to see another win or 2

or 3. (We did it vs Calgary in 94!)

Our top 2 lines cancel out their top 2 lines, the difference is the bottom 6, they’re killing us. Vegas is getting great secondary scoring from the 3rd & 4th lines, only secondary scoring we’ve had came from Motte. Even when Vegas’ bottom 6 isn’t scoring its constant pressure and zone time. Markstrom also needs be better.
