It'll be on Blackwood. If he plays well, we likely advance. If he doesn't, we likely don't. I think it's almost that simple.
Or it could be on Jared Bednar. If he plays Blackwood but doesn't pull him early after a bad goal... that could be the difference as well. It'll be on Blackwood. If he plays well, we likely advance. If he doesn't, we likely don't. I think it's almost that simple.
Tons of players at this time of the year play with broken parts. Look at Hedman. If Heiskanen could play, he would.
I mean, how do we really know what happened with Landeskog. We have no idea if he chose to keep Landeskog off, or if they were following a protocol or if Landeskog said no.But Dallas was also considered a favoriate in the West. Getting past them is a monstrous step in winning a cup. Bednar still scratched a healthy, 1st line ready Gabriel Landeskog for basically two games. First game... as a f***ing healthy scratch and after getting bitchslapped by CMac, Jared played him 3rd line minutes in the 2nd. After Sakic kicked slapped him and asked "What's the frequency, Kenneth?", Bedsy came to his senses and started playing Gabe in the top 6.
Coaches are coaches. Some play games, some think they are playing games, some just get played.
Heiskanen is just relaxing and enjoying the sun.I'm surprised Heiskanen isn't playing, especially since he's been a regular at practices for over a week. DeBoer doesn't want to rush him even though he'd have all summer to recover if anything went wrong.
To me this suggests he's saving him for Round 2 and that he's confident they're going to win
I have no idea. No one does.Tons of players at this time of the year play with broken parts. Look at Hedman.
If they were in game 7 of the cup finals and DeBoer wouldn't have to worry about rushing him and potentially losing him for future rounds would he play?

This and Landy also plays better in Game 3 with the first game already under his beltIf the Avs lose this series, Bednar choosing to play Miles Wood instead of Landeskog in game 2 is going to be the reason we lost for me.
You can't convince me with the way Landy has been playing for us that he wasn't ready to go in Game 2, and you certainly can't convince me that he would have had an infinitely better impact on the game then Wood who was ultimately directly responsible for the OT Goal.
Landy plays Game 2, we just won the series in 6 games last night.
Well, it's all on Jared Bednar, I'm not trying to minimize his culpability in any calamity, only to minimize his contribution to success.Or it could be on Jared Bednar. If he plays Blackwood but doesn't pull him early after a bad goal... that could be the difference as well.
I have not cared for MacKenzie's last two games. Honestly, I thought we were done after we got Scott Wedgewood, so I wouldn't be surprised to see him get the nod... except for the fact that the Avs went and immediately extended BBW. That made him our defacto #1. You absolutely must start him. Could anyone imagine a situation were if Roy had a bad game for the Avs where any of our coaches would've started Billington in his place during a playoff game?
But here's another thing... Blackwood has definitely seen better games, but was he actually the sole reason we lost these three so far? Or was he maybe responsible for part of our three victories?
I get really roiled when we as fans of the team start dinging on "forwards" vs "dmen" vs "goalies". It's one freaking team. It takes all three parts working together to do anyting of significance. When one part is struggling, you can often find one of those other parts also not doing their best to support. Just the nature of team sports... but that's why i din't like throwing one player or one group of player under a bus broadly speaking.
I've had a hunch that Kiviranta gets the series winner somehow. Hockey is funny like thatNo better time to right his wrongs, Kiviranta owes us the most random nonchalent hat trick.
My man... I've been calling for his dismissal all season, but I will not minimize his contributions to our success. In fact, he was instrumental to it. It's just that if you don't try new positions it gets old and you want something new, right?Well, it's all on Jared Bednar, I'm not trying to minimize his culpability in any calamity, only to minimize his contribution to success.
Beyond that, I'm not really saying Blackwood is the "sole" reason for anything, he's simply the biggest variable. Oettinger has consistently played well against an Avs team that has consistently played better 5v5. This puts the onus on Blackwood for being the biggest game-breaker.
He's Finnish. Relaxing in the saunaThe math says Heiskanen is relaxing by the pool until round 2 starts.
Don't worry bro, I got you. I will minimize his contributions enough for all of us. Team strong! My man... I for one would like to see a 2C succeed in our system. I don't think Bednar really gives a f*** about it until he doesn't get it in the playoffs. Then he acts all surprised that the depth scoring isn't there, when he's been giving no shits about the second line all season long.
I'm so damn conflicted... I hate that I'm starting to hate Jared Bednar.
This team has never be built from the net out though. Expecting Blackwood to be a difference maker when the opposing goalie is Oettinger isn't a realistic expectation.Well, it's all on Jared Bednar, I'm not trying to minimize his culpability in any calamity, only to minimize his contribution to success.

I mean, ok, but I didn't say I had expectation beyond the outcome will likely follow how well he plays. This team has never be built from the net out though. Expecting Blackwood to be a difference maker when the opposing goalie is Oettinger isn't a realistic expectation.

Jared Bednar is the head coach of the Colorado Avalanche. Gabriel Landeskog was activated and deemed healthy. I don't give a f*** who said no, it was the wrong response.I remember Bednar saying that when Landy tells him he is ready to play he would play him. IMO, if we go with that, it was obviously Landy's decision not to play in games 1 and 2.
Sauna and coffee definitely for the Finns lolHe's Finnish. Relaxing in the sauna
