Man, it was nice to have a series where us Stars fans didn't have to worry about any single particular player on the other side everytime he was on the ice.

Had MacKinnon/Makar, now back to McDavid/Draisaitl.

One thing I absolutely hated that the Stars did in the WCF last year is they completely changed their playstyle to cater to defending McDavid/Draisaitl. Neutered their own offense entirely just for those 2 guys. And that powerplay in that series...woof. Hopefully this year it goes better (so far the special teams have been much better, but we will see). Need guys to step up too (which it's never too late, but at some point it becomes super unlikely that guys like Duchene will just start producing regularly when they haven't yet). Especially at 5v5.

It seems obvious that Dallas shouldn't try going toe-to-toe offensively with the Oilers, but a tight, defensive style might hurt them too as the Oilers have more, perhaps the only, gamebreaking talent.

We saw this in the Four Nations, Canada won because they had more gamebreaking offensive talents to counter a US team that perhaps had greater depth as a team.

I’ll touch on your 4 nations comment. Sure Mack and mcdavid scores in that final, but I feel Canada won because their weak links were not as bad as USA weak links. Case in point on the mcdavid goal, USA had their weakest defensive forward jack hughes and weakest defensive d man in fox on the ice at the same time in overtime, in the final match. Bad coaching error their and mcdavid made them pay

Last year the Stars powerplay was awful in the WCF . So far in the playoffs we've been relying on it to score so it can't be as bad as it was or we're 100% losing and losing fast .

It has better weapons now than it had last year and has been better overall but still that's no guarantee. The PP needs to produce for the Stars to win. More than shutting down McDrai ( which isn't really possible ) we need our special teams to keep producing to win.

Edmonton has better defense.
Dallas has better goaltending.
Both have equal forward depth.

Edmonton however has McDavid and Draisaitl which I believe will give them the edge. Both the Kings and Golden Knights have better defense than the Stars. Edmonton in 7!

I just can’t see how anyone would give the edge to Edmonton there to be honest. The Stars have two #1 guys on their backend along with Esa who is one of the top defenders in the league. The rest of their guys have performed very well in their slotted roles, especially Ceci and Bichsel.

That being said, I’m more than willing to give the edge to the Oilers for forward depth. On paper I agree the Stars have the edge, but they’ve underperformed in the playoff whereas the Oilers depth has been phenomenal.

Regardless … it’s going to be a grind of a series. Should be another fun one.

Edmonton in 5 or 6

They are not going to be stopped this year.

Interestingly Edmonton's special teams have been in the toilet. McDavid has 1 powerplay point so far. Would be scary if their special teams got going again on top of everything else.

I think it's safe to say Heiskanen is back. He is starting to look like an impactful player again. H&H as a dynamic duo will be a tough nut to crack for Edmonton.

IMO Oilers has been for me, the most impressive team.
BUT, the intangible for me is in net! Oettinger has played a a very high level against the Jets especially game 7. Went with Oilers by heart,....

Well, fortunately for you, the Oilers have a long and storied tradition of being slump busters 🙄.

It actually terrifies me MORE that Duchense is in this epic slump.

Oettinger is by far the best goalie Edmpnton has faced

Harley& Heiskanen easily the best 2 Dmen Edmonton has faced

Rantanen the best forward

Yet the bottom9 has been a massive let down and so Edmonton will enter this one as clear favourite

didn't oilers take out dallas last year in the playoffs? i don't remember if dallas less or more healthy this year

also Dallas missed some offensive game breaking ability last year that oilers have in mcjesus and drai. This year dallas added Rantanen so they've covered that part but defensively i think they may need to up their game to face-off against McDrai on two separate lines

Stars team as a whole was more banged up by the time of the WCF last year. This year Heiskanen and Robertson ( also Seguin ) coming back from injury during the playoffs is obviously a factor but i think the roster as a whole is still more intact. Haven't even really had to use any of our spares.

We heard the exact same thing about our previous two opponents, but few people seem to demonstrate what they mean or back it up with numbers.
Ya Edmonton deserves credit this year.

I was one of those posters last year who felt like the Oilers had an easier path than Dallas in the playoffs prior to their matchup, and I still stand by that. Just my opinion.

This year I won’t say that. I liked both LA and VGK (I had them coming out of the West) and you guys managed to beat both with ease. Both LA and VGK are tough opponents.

Agreed about last year, although the Canucks series with the emotion attached to the rivalry as well as the series going seven took a bit out of the Oilers.
