Right. It didn't but this team is now far more mature. How has it done better under Dubas/Keefe? It hasn't. Needle hasn't moved at all under the caring compassion. You would've expected growth and some results by now. They aren't there. Do you think the Babcock teams would've lost to Columbus and Montreal? It's not shameful to lose to the Caps and Boston, but it sure is to the Jackets and the Habs. The mature Leafs lost to inferior teams. Where's the progression? Not there. Why?
We all want to be coddled at work. It makes our lives easier, but in doing that does the business win more? That's rhetorical. I know for me, if you push me hard vs. pampering me, you're most likely going to see better results from pushing me hard vs. pampering. You can be nice to me and push me hard. I don't wanted to be treated poorly, I want fairly all in the name of winning in whatever I'm doing. Leafs seem more invested and err on the side of feelings over winning.
EDIT: As to Wayne being "well liked in the room". I'm so tired of that refrain. Who cares if he's well-liked? I don't. Do you want a guy who can score 40 nobody really likes, or someone who can't score at all who everybody loves? Of course, if I had to choose, I'd want a guy well liked who scores 40. If you're going in for life saving surgery, do you want the doc you like or the dick who has a 100% survival rate in his patients? Give me the jerk every single time over the nice guy who loses a patient every once in awhile.
