Kyle's been treating people right his whole careeer. Aint a single f***ing leaf that went through a wall for him or anyone when it mattered the most in the playoffs. Nylander kerfoot and rielly being given passes.
None of those players needed a few games to get to 1000.

Not saying to bring in FA and walk them nicely to pasture.

You treat your players poorly and other players will not want to come and play in Toronto..

Maybe you would rather have a dick move like Babcock did with Spezza

Now you're moving goalposts. So treating players nicely is just when they're close to a 1000 games? How about paying them very fairly and even more than what the market at the current time was? How about staying back all night and looking after you're injured player who has had a potentially career ending injury (mikh's wrist), OR how about providing guys other opportunities instead of holding them back like marchment, barabanov and countless others?

People can hate or love dubas but one thing no one can deny is that he's been EXTREMELY accommodating to players and have treated them better than almost any other gm in the league. So much so that he publicly shielded his players after the playoff fiasco and put himself on the hot seat.

ALl that to say, he hasn't gotten shit in return from his players when it mattered most. The NHL isn't a charity. If you get to 1k games on your own volition fine. But this isn't some second rate league, its a business and keeping simmer just to complete 1k is f***ing stupid and a joke to the deserving players of the spot.

I don't know if Dubas helped him with glory, yet. That is to be determined.

Robidas Island is not for guys making 900k.

All I'm saying is, IF, and I mean IF, Kyle held off on getting rid of Simmonds to get him to 1K games that is pathetic. Some would find it classy. I don't. We all can see Wayne Simmonds is not helping this team win games. If the Leafs are more in the business of personal achievement than winning, that doesn't sit well with me. I don't know this to be true, but it has been speculated that Kyle kept him around to get him his milestone. I do not like that one bit, if that is true.

Will be glad if Wayne is gone. I thought he was a bald tire when he first signed here. Spezza is almost the same to me. Would like to leave the feel good stories and be more about being sold out for winning than nice story lines. Nothing personal against nice story lines, I just like winning better. I think most of us do.
I find it classy, helping a respected vet reach 1000 games reflects well on the appreciation for this player and this is noticed by those in the room.

Stalling at 995 would not be a good situation.

Some kinda mental health issue with family is what I heard this morning .. nothing serious .. how long can a player stay in this non roster position? and how doe sit affect our CAP? thanks

Not sure on the time length but no real effect on the Cap, we are in LTIR anyway. if we need to use up more of the LTIR room to add someone we can just demote Steeves, Robertson and Clifford.

Yeah because you got called out for making a pretty shit point. Why bother reading the rest when you know the first sentence is enough to tackle you're entirely made up point.

Nice efficiency!

I rail on this guy all the time. But really hoping everything is ok from family and health point of view

He has a young family. Hope it gets sorted out soon

I think Price has been on
NHLPA PLAYER ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (1 - $10,500,000)
for months.
His money does not appear to count against their cap.

A lot of people dislike Babcock and point to him holding Modano out of game 1500, so good logic.

This is the take of someone with huge character flaws. Just saying.

Be better bud.

Where was the speculation that he was kept around by the Leafs so he could get his 1000th game....... I'm not buying this one bit. I think it's a safe bit that there is something personal going on.

I think it was just idle Twitter/social media speculation. Don't think it was ever mentioned by a credible source

This makes no sense, if true, unless something is wrong with his family. His child was born 2/12. He stayed playing to hit 1000 and then a few games later is out? I hope there's nothing wrong with his child, or his wife.

Odd this can't be confirmed to the degree the Leafs say Wayne's tending to a personal matter. We don't need to know any specifics, but to leave this open for this kind of speculation this close to the deadline is strange.

Possible he was going to be moving in a trade that Kyle thought he could pull off and then fell through?

EDIT: Saw the tweet on him rejoining the team and it being dubbed "personal".

I understand your perspective but don't agree with it.

Things being noticed in the room by this caring compassionate organization has amounted to how many series wins in the Dubas era?

Doing what is in the best interest of winning will do more for the guys who really want to win will do far more than gestures.

As a fan, some want to see Matthews hit a certain goal total. I referenced in another post he might hit 60, and he might. If Marner is going to change his game to accommodate 60 that is not preferable and helps lose games in order to serve a personal need.

Carrying Simmonds to 1000 when playing someone else who could help us more is ridiculous. It should be noted the Leafs laid an egg in Wayne's 1000th. If they really noticed such a grand gesture they certainly didn't respond with a winning performance. I guess it was nice they picked the design of his 1000th shirt and talked it up, but they got drilled on home ice vs. a team out of the playoffs. Sounds harsh but perhaps if their focus was on winning and not that it was Wayne's 1000th, they may have performed better. I don't believe these gestures mean to the team what you think they do. For the individual? Sure. Team? No.

Simmonds is well liked in the room where it matters most. He’s also a better player than OP is giving him credit for. Certainly good enough that getting him to 1000 games wasn’t an act of charity.

Anyway glad it was just paperwork and nothing serious.

Right. It didn't but this team is now far more mature. How has it done better under Dubas/Keefe? It hasn't. Needle hasn't moved at all under the caring compassion. You would've expected growth and some results by now. They aren't there. Do you think the Babcock teams would've lost to Columbus and Montreal? It's not shameful to lose to the Caps and Boston, but it sure is to the Jackets and the Habs. The mature Leafs lost to inferior teams. Where's the progression? Not there. Why?

We all want to be coddled at work. It makes our lives easier, but in doing that does the business win more? That's rhetorical. I know for me, if you push me hard vs. pampering me, you're most likely going to see better results from pushing me hard vs. pampering. You can be nice to me and push me hard. I don't wanted to be treated poorly, I want fairly all in the name of winning in whatever I'm doing. Leafs seem more invested and err on the side of feelings over winning.

EDIT: As to Wayne being "well liked in the room". I'm so tired of that refrain as that should justify dead weight. Who cares if he's well-liked, if he offers nothing as to winning? I don't. Do you want a guy who can score 40 nobody really likes, or someone who can't score at all who everybody loves? Of course, if I had to choose, I'd want a guy well liked who scores 40. If you're going in for life saving surgery, do you want the doc you like or the dick who has a 100% survival rate in his patients? Give me the jerk every single time over the nice guy who loses a patient every once in awhile.

"Being a dick didn't work and neither did being nice"

it is almost like the team tried really hard both times and just came up short.

I've been happier with the player's effort in the last two series vs with Babcock, we were at least the better team last two series.
