Earl with the explanation of what this is related to but not anything specific.

EDIT: If some of the speculation is true, that Kyle only kept him around to hit 1000, that's a really bad look, imo. You aren't in the business of getting guys to milestones. You're in the business of winning. To think the Leafs carried Simmonds to personal glory while hurting the team is unconscionable. The other speculation is someone may have passed, or this is related to the recent birth of his son, but that was back in mid-February.

Seems like a good guy but you can’t have two older guys on the 4th line. He is better than Clifford. Wonder if there is something else going on?

Tweet you posted said it's important to not speculate. So you speculate dubas was helping him with personal glory?
I know you said some. And gave two examples. But your first was to the glory rather then what it shows in example as possible death

Maybe Wayne has read the tea leaves and has decided to step away from the game? Does make me wonder if he had informed the team of this possibility hence the snag of Clifford... that was an odd get at the time.

Regardless, lets hope its a good news story or at the very least has a happy ending.

No doubt information will be shared when the time is right... or he re-joins the team.

Absolutely did. Given I don't know the reason, I'm saying "if" this is what was happening, that's a bad look, imo.

I love Earl Schwartz but he doesn't dictate what I do or don't do. This is what boards like these exist for. The Simmonds topic is of interest. It is possible we're finally moving on from someone who needs to be moved on from. That is exciting.

Of course, I certainly hope it's nothing of a personal nature that is due to a difficult situation. That would be bad and I'd feel for him.

So dubas helped him with glory and gave him extra games to not be suspicious rather then ol faithful robidas island?

I don't know if Dubas helped him with glory, yet. That is to be determined.

Robidas Island is not for guys making 900k.

All I'm saying is, IF, and I mean IF, Kyle held off on getting rid of Simmonds to get him to 1K games that is pathetic. Some would find it classy. I don't. We all can see Wayne Simmonds is not helping this team win games. If the Leafs are more in the business of personal achievement than winning, that doesn't sit well with me. I don't know this to be true, but it has been speculated that Kyle kept him around to get him his milestone. I do not like that one bit, if that is true.

Will be glad if Wayne is gone. I thought he was a bald tire when he first signed here. Spezza is almost the same to me. Would like to leave the feel good stories and be more about being sold out for winning than nice story lines. Nothing personal against nice story lines, I just like winning better. I think most of us do.

Wayne will step up the physicality every 6-7 games when the team is getting beaten down, but beyond that the numbers don’t lie.

95-11-12-23 as a Leaf, less than 12:00 last year and less than 10:00 this year, barely 4th line minutes and production.

And he’s just 33, it’s not like he’s 39 or whatever. He hasn’t really ‘hurt’ the team, like a guy like Ritchie or Mrazek, but he doesn’t really help them either.

Over that same time period Spezza has 108-20-30-50. He makes more errors than Wayne does, but at least he’ll move the needle a little on offense, and he’s versatile and good on the dot.

He’s a good soldier who was once a good player and has had a good career (250 goals, 1000 GP), but on a good team he wouldn’t be playing.

You may not like, But I would think the players appreciate not being treated like a number.

Treat people right and they will go to the wall for you.

With all due respect, this is so stupid.

It's an 82 game season, we are firmly in a playoff position. Everyone in that room, not just Wayne, wanted him to hit 1000 games. It's a morale boost for the entire team including staff to celebrate that remarkable achievement. Sheldon and Kyle more than likely did exactly what you are speculating, and are now giving him some time to rest up.

Wayne is 33 years old and has played about as hard of a 1000 games as you can probably imagine. His play isn't warranting him be in the lineup every night, this is just what happens.

But what is worse? sitting him his entire 1000 game season and make him retire at 990 GP? maybe even 999?? Look at what that did for Babcock in Detroit with Modano on 1499GP. It made every person in that room despise Mike and that was maybe the start of him losing that room

Kyle's been treating people right his whole careeer. Aint a single f***ing leaf that went through a wall for him or anyone when it mattered the most in the playoffs. Nylander kerfoot and rielly being given passes.
