They don't really have another guy that can be that grinder type 3rd wheel for the top 6. Hyman isn't ever leaving the Matthews and Marner line. Simmonds was actually really helping the PP and I thought Nylander & JT looker better.

Wonder if there was any interest in Bennett if this has kind of fast forwarded things a bit.

Our depth has really been unlucky on the injury side of things so far this year

Campbell, Thornton, Robertson, Dermott, now Simmonds. Piling up a little bit.

I believe even Kerfoot has been playing banged up.

Simmonds is a big loss as he represents a big portion of Leafs toughness.. His fights this year have been momentum changers, and he has also made an impact on the PP and contributed offensively as well.

Leafs skilled players are going to take more physical abuse without him in the line-up.

Wayne seems to respond well to lengthy absences, might not be the worst thing.

Silver lining, his 1.5 AAV is finally an injury that gives us some flexibility.
