It's what we've said for years. Draft high for an extended period of time. Trade for picks and prospects. Weaponize cap space. Stockpile young talent...
Some won't pan out but some will. Is it luck that we got Hutson at 62? Let's say for the sake of argument that it is. But at the end of the day, when you're constantly getting extra picks, sooner or later some are going to pan out. When you have those extra picks you can take the homerun swings because you've already drafted what you needed.
Look at all of the rebuild teams over the decades. Several picks and many don't work out. But some do. And when you accumulate talent like that, you can then use those non-superstar picks as assets to address other needs. As you said, if RB doesn't work out it won't matter now. Why? Because we have so many assets to trade with that we can just go get what we need. Same with the center position.
Beck, Roy, RB, Mailloux, Demidov, Fowler... that's a hell of a lot of talent coming soon. Again, some may not make it but it doesn't matter. Somebody would trade for any of those prospects. Anyone who says it's luck doesn't know what they're talking about. Lucky to get Demidov at 5th? Okay. But we drafted 1st in a really weak draft... it all evens out. Hutson was a direct result of a trade. Forget 'sake of argument' here. That's not luck.
