I am ready to cut the cord and to stream everything. The only things I will really miss will be the Leafs, Argos (CFL in general), local news, and maybe TVOntario.

What can folks here suggest as the best and most cost effective ways to watch the Leafs and Argos/CFL after cutting the cord?

As for free and completely legal means. CBC Gem has any game that would be on CBC. Which is most Saturday games and most playoff games.

If anyone knows any less reputable ways I’d love to know as well.
I work nights so I watch most games on my phone through a friends Rogers account. Weekend games are really the only ones I’m home for but I’d love an option for other weekend games

I also never use pirated streams because that would be dishonest and the internet is no place for dishonesty ;D

Due to most of those pirated streams that I don’t use being unreliable, this season I bit hard and did a bad thing. I subscribed to the Sportsnet+ upgraded package and discovered one pleasant surprise after showering off the dirty feeling of giving Roger’s money… the TSN broadcast games are streamed on Sportsnet+, but u gotta pay $35/month. It is convenient though. I live in Nova Scotia and this gets me every game. No need for a TSN subscription as well.

IPTV and strong bandwidth. $15/month for the IPTV. $200 initial cost for the box. That's like 2 months worth of cable though.

You'll get Leafs, Argos, Indian cricket, Peruvian soccer and Thai kickboxing. Literally.

Do you live in the Toronto (Leafs) region?

If so, your legal methods are to buy TSN+ and SportsNet+ . That will get you every Leafs game and every CFL game. That also gets you all the Jays games and half the Raptors games if you care about those.

As far as TVO goes, pretty sure that is free as per: TVO Today | Current Affairs Journalism, Documentaries and Podcasts.

CBC is free OTA as well, and does stream a lot of sporting events as well (for free).

Sportsnet+ is ~$180+tax per year.
TSN+ is ~$80+tax per year.

If you're with Bell and live in the Leafs region, which is Southern and Northern Ontario. I assumed Western Ontario is Jets region, Eastern Ontario is habs/sens.

If you have Bell, you can get fibe TV app and get TSN and Sportsnet, minus Sportsnet 360 for around 20 bucks. Other channels are included. For an additional 4 bucks you get Sportsnet 360, or Sportsnet One. Whichever is the speciality channel.

That's the cheapest legal way. There are obvious illegal ways, but I try to avoid them just because I've found a lot of them have streaming issues.

And my net speed is Bell fibe 1.5 gigs. Some places they just get a random error way too often.

Well in southern Ontario you will have to pay for both SN and TSN in order to get all 82 Leafs games.

Two streams - two locations - share with a friend for half the price.

It's a bit of an emotional rollercoaster, but this here website provides GDTs that give a pretty good text account of games.

Then CBC on Saturdays and playoffs and your disappointment arc will be complete.

That is really good to know, thanks.

Once you start adding up the various things you subscribe to, it end up costing close to a basic cable package!

I have been considering IPTV.

Someone above mentioned Sportsnet+ as that gets you Leafs games from TSN. If it gets you CFL games from TSN as well then it is a good deal.

I should also mention that I found out yesterday that I am stuck in my contract with Rogers for another year. I thought I was stuck with their internet for the next year, but it turns out I am stuck with the entire bundle.

So I can pay them about $1500 for the next 13 months and then be done with them, or on general principle I can leave them now by buying myself out of my commitment for about $300.

I am heading out in a couple of hours to switch my cellular plan so regardless of what I do with the bundled services, at least I can get cell service from a cheaper provider.

You won't get TSN games on SN+ if you are in southern Ontario. Blackout rules 100% apply here.

Streaming is fine when you are not at home, but it’s a real pain when you want to switch between games.

This is what I've been doing for a few months now and I'm very happy with it. Had some buffering issues, and was most annoyed when my screen went blank for the entire first period of a Leaf game which was weird, seemed like every single channel I had went blank at the same time, sound was still there, some weird glitch. Since then though, smooth sailing, no buffering issues to speak of, not only do I get every channel I could possibly dream of but also pretty much every movie and TV show I could possibly want as well.

IPTV is the greatest, just make sure you upgrade your internet (whoever your provider is) to the highest package. I'm in Northern Ontario and use Sunwire ($90/month) and have had zero buffering issues.

Is literally saving me thousands per year.

As others have mentioned...

If you DO live in the Leafs region you must subscribe to:
- TSN (26 TSN4 Regional Games)
- Sportsnet (16 SNO Regional + 42 SN National Games)

If you DO NOT live in the Leafs region you MUST subscribe to:
- Sportsnet (42 SN National Games)
- NHL Centre Ice / Sportsnet+ Premium (26 TSN4 Regional Games + 16 SNO Regional Games)

It has been this way for like 10 years... not sure why people don't know this already. Not saying I agree with the blackout structure, but it is not a new thing.

My experience with IPTV was not pleasant as the feeds I happened to get were not from the Leafs region to the games were blacked out on IPTV as well. I was able to find an alternative feed in some cases, but not all. Very dependent on your service provider. Since it was a hassle for me I stopped using it.
