Happy Gilmore is on the television, and I'm reminded of the claim I first saw on the internet at least ten years ago - Joe Sakic and Vincent Lecavalier are in Happy Gilmore, somewhere in this scene:

Googling the question seems to return two results - "Fun fact: Joe Sakic was in Happy Gilmore" and "was Joe Sakic in Happy Gilmore?"

So, I turn to HF. Do you know? Can you see him anywhere in that video? Can we convince @The Mars Volchenkov to ask him about it during a press conference?

I think he was there but never got in any of the shots.

This is off topic, but I was an extra in Slapshot. Way up at the top of the stands in the Utica War Memorial Auditorium - home of the Utica ( then Mohawk Valley) Comets. They filmed at several central NY memorial coliseums. I had a cardboard cutout in the next seat, as did most of the volunteers. BTW, recipient of 5 minutes or so tonight, Jayson Megna, had a cup of coffee with the Utica Comets ( and to this day, they play in 'The Aud' from what I understand.

How old are you?
Sad to say, I am 59, but a youthful 59. The movie makers needed to fill the stands as best they could, so they appealed to the youth hockey teams to come and bring their parents. Still, we needed cardboard cutouts interspersed to make the upper seats appear full. My primary memories were that I got out of school, and that it was ridiculously cold in the auditorium, since they apparently depended on body heat normally - an entity to which the cardboard cutouts were not contributing.

So, yes, I am old as dirt, but it was still a fun hockey memory.

Isn't Sakic the guy in the white? I know some say that is Vinny (who isn't credited), but bears a resemblance to a young Sakic.

I played the lead in a terrible sci fi movie - acting is fun but only if you realize you're a terrible actor

I didn't get to stab anyone with my skate either

Yeah I don't think Sakic or Lecavlier ended up in the finished scene.

Joe's IMDB bio is pretty funny though.

"Joe Sakic was born on July 7, 1969 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada as Joseph Steven Sakic. He is an actor, known for Hockey Night in Canada (1952), TSN Hockey(1987) and NHL Power Players: All-Stars of the Game (1997). He is married to Debbie. They have three children."

Apparently it's the 25th anniversary today.

Edit: Spleenless beat me to it by a matter of seconds.
