Good deal, though a 2 year bridge would of been better. So they'll have 16m+ to spend next year to resign Kuznetsov, alzner, burakovsky and orlov. Probably let Williams walk/and or oshie.

Kuznetsov at least 7m
Alzner 5.5+m
Orlov ??? depends on his year
Burakovsky bridge

Then they have to resign carlson year after. Don't know if Orlov stays if its 5m+ next year

Orlov is a strong candidate to get taken by McPhee/Vegas. Having him signed beyond this year would have made it even more probable. Caps won't protect 4 d-men (need to do the 7F/3D route), and Carlson, Alzner, Niskanen are far more likely to be protected than Orlov.

So one year make sense

The Caps should try and trade him after the season but before the ED for a prospect who's exempt.

They have three dmen better than Orlov, but not every team does.

Those are definitely the 3 you protect if you go the 7-3-1 route. Makes sense, forgot about the draft for a minute

I really don't think Alzner is getting that much salary from the Caps. Not saying he isn't worth it, but I think around 4.5 is more realistic.

Orlov can **** off next summer as far as I'm concerned.
