Was surprised I didn't see a thread for an already drafted prospect? Please just send this post there if I missed it.

Leafs already had a bunch of late picks in 2020. Apparently one of their scouts banged the table and advocated so hard for this guy Dubas traded for a 7th Round Pick.

After a nice freshman season in the hockey east last year where he had a .5 PPG in 14 games, most of us Leaf fans took notice. This year he's been on fire to start the season with 12 points in 8 games.

For players U20 in the entire NCAA he currently only trails Josh Doan, Kent Johnson, and Carter Savoie in total points.

3 point game last night:

not sure if anyone reads these weekly roundups or not, but there was a really interesting note at the bottom re: Ryan Tverberg WJC eligibility:

Ryan Tverberg may have finally had his goal streak snapped this week, but some news regarding his World Juniors eligibility status surfaced this weekend from prospect analyst Chris Peters in his Hockey Sense substack newsletter: “An under-the-radar player that might be worth keeping a closer eye on at the moment is UConn’s Ryan Tverberg (TOR). He has goals in five straight games, which included tough matchups against Boston College and Providence. Tverberg is a dual U.S.-Canadian citizen and sources have indicated he’s getting a bit of a push to be part of Team USA’s camp. The question, however, is if he has been in the U.S. long enough to meet citizenship requirements as he spent most of the last several years in Canada before moving to the U.S. to play for UConn. Tverberg represented Canada East at the World Junior A Challenge two years ago, but that is not a binding event. It’s interesting, nonetheless. The 19-year-old sophomore had seven points in 14 games last season, but is already up to nine goals and 15 points in just 11 games in his second collegiate campaign.”

Posted by @Twine Tickler on the Leafs board. Some of us have speculated he *should* be in contention for a WJC spot based on merit this year, but it was a crazy long shot at best for Canada. Seems interesting if USA is pushing for him though. 9G, 16P in 13GP in hockey east so far. Clearly the best player on his team.

Invited to Canada's camp after it was announced he was not eligible to play for USA.

He's the best player on UConn as a sophomore and has 16 points (9 goals) in only 14 games in Hockey East. This really shouldn't be a surprise, but we're pleasantly surprised on the Leafs board seeing a guy drafted in the 7th round with almost 0 experience with hockey Canada getting this kind of recognition. He's a guy they might like his style in the bottom-6 or as a Hyman-type on a line with two star players. Or he'll be in the first round of cuts. Either way, we're very happy for him and loving the season he's having.

Could he become some sort of Jake Evans for Toronto? 11 points in 9 games. Maybe he join the Leafs at the end of the season? They sure could use a cheap bottom six guy.

He reminds me a lot of Oshie stylistically. Not saying that's his potential.

He has a pretty high floor as a bottom sixer because of his excellent straight line speed, power game and non-stop motor, but his hands and touch around the net give him some intriguing middle six upside.

Had him ranked as the Leafs 6th best prospect (ahead of Hirvonen, Steeves, etc.). I think he's a sure fire NHLer in some capacity.

Great post - I have seen Tyler Ennis in his game and I expect he‘ll have a similar impact to Ennis once he makes the NHL.

Listed at 6' 190 now. So not exactly a giant but certainly not small.
Looking back on the draft he was drafted at 5’10” 168.

I loved this kids game at 5’10” and thought he had a very good chance at becoming an NHLer - had no idea he grew to 6’ - this kid could very well be the steal of the 2020 Draft at this rate. Wow.

Over PPG now in the AHL after a monster night. He has always been known for having an insane motor and work rate, starting to think he could be a quality contributor at some point next year.

He has a very high motor and deceptively good speed and shot. Same dog on a bone kind of forechecking presence as Hyman but with better looking hands at the same age. He looks like he has a great chance of becoming either a third liner who provides good depth scoring or a complimentary piece in a top six if he keeps developing at the same pace he has been the last couple of years.

24pts in 22GP as a 21 year old rookie in the AHL.

He’s always played a pro style game so him translating smoothly makes sense. He’s developed a pretty heavy one timer this year.

Perfect complementary player that can play up/down the lineup with his versatility. Probably my favourite Leaf prospect with Knies graduating.
