5 years later, Kazakov is leading his KHL team Metallurg Novokuznetsk. It's the first year he really got a chance (plays on the 1st line with a former Capital Ryan Stoa and a Minnesota 2015 pick Kirill Kaprizov) and looks astonishingly awesome.
He has 15 points (7+8) in 9 games so far, and leads the -21 team with +5.

Kazakov is very skilled, with great stickhandling and skating ability, has a decent shot with a good release, stands out with his good hockey IQ and passing. A creative player who is both good on the rush and in a positional attack. I wouldn't say he's amazing at defense, but still pretty decent, and he plays a bit of PK.
Downside is obviously his size (5'8.5, 170 lbs). Kazakov is signed with Kuznya until 2017, but if he can keep up his game, he'll likely be traded to some SKA of this world, and then, who knows, maybe it's him who'll be the next Panarin.
