let’s hope 10 years from now the Rangers have at least one Cup and still have 29 yr old Laf and Kakko playing at a high level.
Scary thought though....Ottawa had some great clubs back once upon a time and some great players..Hossa , Alfie, Phillips, Chara , Redden, Heatley, Yashin ....and they made it into one final . A great team does not always equal success in the playoffs . Playoff clubs have to be constructed for that specific task and not so much as for winning first overall in regular season .

Eh I don't even think it's that (else you run the risk of thinking you need to load up on "playoff grinders" who suck in the regular season and handicap your ability to get to the postseason anyways...) it's a whole damn lot of luck and just trying to put yourself in the best position to catch the breaks you need.

Like the Rangers 2015 ECF...bad luck to lose Zuccarello in the previous series, have half the defense playing hurt, etc etc. Could have gone a different way with some better luck.

I think Mika's fate will be tied to how he does next season and whether he can stay healthy.

If there's another major injury, there's probably a very real possibility the Rangers see if they can make a similar trade to the one that landed him in the first place.

That is not going to be answer this board wants to here, but it's going to be on the table if certain things happen.

Having said that, I believe the Rangers sincerely hope it would not come to that.

I've always wondered a little bit if Barkov's status in Florida is somewhat linked to what the Rangers do with Zibanejad.

So have I and honestly if given a choice between the two, Barkov really would be a no brainer for me.

That said, what the Rangers do with Zibanejad will be entirely up to him. If he continues to kill it while hes here (while staying on the ice), they'll do what they can to keep him. He's well liked and we know that he can perform here, no reason to rock that boat if it isn't necessary.

I can't help but think that there will need to be some concession from the Zibanejad side on term.

so true

You mean they wouldn't play as hard?

I think maybe that. I wouldn't know, of course. I never played with one. Haha. Perhaps the game just comes to them more instead of chasing it, and they are just more talented with the puck too. I think at the end of the day though you would be able to tell the difference. If you can see it on TV than you would probably see it if you were out there with them.

It's absolutely a no-brainer. The difficult part is hedging your bets on him actually hitting the market either through free agency or trade. Kind of hard to get a read on what Florida is doing. Their GM is saying the right things but then you have the rumors they've been asked to slash payroll. Rumors that Ekblad could be had as well. So what's the real story?

I agree with you about Zibanejad controlling his own destiny. If he continues to play this well and manages to stay healthy I think he'll remain a Ranger for a long time. No reason, as you said, to rock the boat unless the injuries continue to come into play and/or his game really falls off.

Fall into his lap? I don't think so. He got a ton of assets for Duchesne including Girard and pick he used on Byram, largely by being patient, but he also traded for Grubauer and Graves. That's first rate GM work.
Yeah but nobody expected the sens to just fall apart into an abyss after loading up like that. The byram pick is just pure luck...

Graves was a my trash for your trash that worked out...strome for spooner for example...and also graves requested a trade.

I think he's been a mostly meh gm. I can't for the life of me believe why they didn't load up this year.

A big notch in his favor tho is the Barrie trade..I felt that was a grand slam the moment he made that trade.

I will say that I've met Sakic many times in my career and he really is a good guy.

I do think it's interesting to see how he was able to re-shape his legacy in Colorado. Many people forget that prior to the Nords moving, Sakic's leadership was often called into question. In fact, it reached the point where Wendall Clark was brought in to provide the leadership management did not feel they were getting from Sakic.

There's this narrative that Yzerman and Sakic were these revered leaders. But lost to time were the contemporary opinions that both were lacking the stuff to be "winners" and were shockingly close to be being shipped elsewhere.

Sakic was on the cusp of 27 during the 1996 campaign when his fortunes changes. Yzerman was 32 a year later when he began to shift his narrative. Point being, it took a little while.
Excellent point about Yzerman. I used to ride home on NJ Transit with Bill Clement after games at MSG and one night we had a long talk about Yzerman. This would have been 1992-5. To say Clement was down on Yzerman would be an understatement. He was very blunt in saying the Wings would never win unless Yzerman changed or the Wings shipped him out. Simply not at leader at that point in time.

This also reminds me of the very same knock on Ovechkin back a few years ago.

Blah blah blah leadership. Nobody is a leader and nobody can win until they do and then what do you know the narrative goes away.

Did Bobbop still yo girl or something? Everytime he post you have some sarcastic reply. It really makes you look pathetic. What are you? A 12 year old lmao.

Or are you just salty that he's part of the hockey world and you are just a simple fan

Huge 5 on 3 coming for Traktor hopefully Kravtsov gets to start it

They call Sedlak their "star player" but he sucks
yep. It seems like this whole team can't find the back of the net. Let's be honest they score about 1-2 goals a game on average. The game they broke out against was versus a terrible Amur team.
Hope they find a way to score some goals in periods 2 and 3 today.

can't the Rangers find a way to get Kravtsov on a more skilled team in the KHL, to show he can play with actually talent or maybe they want Kravtsov to be the guy with pressure because maybe they want this so when Kravtsov comes to play for NYR to be the guy????

So far Kravtsov has had the pleasure of playing on offensive powerhouses in Traktor and Hartford and people wonder why his points aren’t where they’d like them to be.

two absolute black holes of offense.

I just want him to have a solid season and be ready to play in a top 9 spot in the nhl by late this year or the start of 2021 2022 season

It sounds like he's playing himself onto the roster though as soon as he comes over. I cannot see a situation where the Rangers bring him over just to play in Hartford. Just like Kakko and Laf wouldn't get sent down.

The only 2 good things about him playing in Traktor is the familiarity with the org and the fact that since they do suck so bad he’s virtually guaranteed a top 6 spot as a 20 year old.

if he was at SKA for example he might not get the mins

I don't mind him at Traktor. The more responsibility he's given, the better. And if he's not playing with other creative players that's not terrible. He needs to continue to learn how to drive play. It's the biggest thing for him to keep developing to play in the NHL at a young age. It's really the diff between players who come into the NHL and stick as teens and those that don't. Can they drive the play? Have an impact shift to shift. Chytil is the best at that and why he's been one of the most successful teenagers of this current group. Howden for all his warts, always seems to get in on the action. Kakko struggled with that and was inconsistent with that until the play-in. All I want VK to do is continue to drive play against men. Generate shots. Help transition the puck. Win puck battles. Etc. He can do that at Traktor just fine.
